...still haven't unloaded the Strats to cover your taxes, eh?

LOL

Well, the taxes are covered thanks to a generous check that came along with a record I'm just finishing now...doubt it'll ever see the light of day but that's another story I can't really talk about.

But honestly man, it's got NOTHING to do with that.

How many Strat's (guitars, cars, homes etc.) does one person actually need?

I've got my EJ Strat which is KILLER, one of those where the glue & the wood and the workers were all just right on that day. Pure magic.

The other two are cool, but the main four paddles are my PRS, LP, the EJ and a Schecter Custom Shop Tele. Beyond that there's another 5 or 6 "specility" axes like a Hamer Shredder.

They're all just bits of wood & magnet wire.

The real magic...the real deal is the hands man...gotta take care of the hands.

So yeah...at this point those two Strats are redundent in my collection. Time to cash out and plunk it down into something else...maybe a mutual fund!

:omg:

In a sense I get your point and I agree with you. If it's not being used at the time then it's senseless to have it.

But for me some of it is sentimental. I remember doing dis-assembly on the Trace the third or fourth day my son came home from the hospital. My wife has pics of him and I with me pointing out the finer points of the amp! I always thought it would be a great amp to hand off to him when he gets older and if he picks up the guitar.

Add to this the thrill of the hunt is just kinda lost with me. I don't WANT to HAVE to go find amps when the desire to play hits me again. I WANT what I know is good! There was an entire thread dedicated to being burnt out on GAS and AAS which surprised me at how many folks were in the same boat as me.

The amps are staying...that's the bottom line. I spent a good chunk of time finding them and the odds are that the results selling them and investing the money won't be worth to me the trouble I spent finding them and then re-finding them when I want to start playing again.

I just want to make sure that when it comes to me playing again that they'll be in good shape.

Re: Amp Storage

What about spending a little $$ on a REAL good attenuator like a Dr. Z Airbrake (like mine ;) ) and playing the amps at low-medium volume once every other week for an hour or so?

Unlikely.

By the time I get home at night the little rocker's in his crib asleep. Weekends are for the family thing. Alot of the reason why i plunked down the cake for a PodXT has to do with this situation.

....but thanks for the offer!

Gotcha... A PodXt is killer for keeping chops in shape and getting good sounds at 3 a.m.

I was looking at this thread because a few years ago I got ahold of a 1982 Marshall JCM800 combo that the owner said had been, "Played for 6 months and then kept in a closet for 20 years." It still has the original GE tubes in it and apparently it had had a leather amp cover over it all that time... but then this is just hearsay. Plus the caps were in great condition and did not need to be replaced. So I'm not REALLY sure if the amp went unplayed that long before I got it. So as to what to do for long-term tube amp storage, I'm not sure... but this thread got me considering the matter should it ever arise.

Some of it is luck, A LOT of it is where the beast is stored too. You're a West Coast guy right? The air & enviornment is WAY less harsh out there then it is here on the East Coast. The only catch would be if your near the ocean, all the salt in the air is really really bad for electronics & metal parts.
