AMP TECH HELP TO CREATE MORE "SAG"

Re: AMP TECH HELP TO CREATE MORE "SAG"

Im just looking to reduce some stiffness in my power supply.Weber got back to me and he gave me this response on the WVW Copper Module with opitional sag. After looking up the schematic of the Peavey 100W Windsor, it shows that it uses a Bridge rectifier, not a Full wave rectifier, so you would have to use a WBR. But what I suggest is to place a resistor in series with the output of your existing Bridge rectifier as shown below:

The WBR Copper Cap Module is a Bridge rectifier with a dropping resistor in series with the output to produce the desired sag, so you would be doing the same thing by doing the mod below. and save your self the price of the WBR.

Remember this resister will get hot during operation, so take care where you mount it. So he is saying instead of buying the copper module to just add a 25 watt resistor in line after the bridge rectifier.

Yep, that is what he is saying. Gotta respect a company that gives you a cheaper solution instead of pushing their product on you. Of course, you still have to decide on what value or values you want to try for the resistor.

Re: AMP TECH HELP TO CREATE MORE "SAG"

Ok all went well got the resistor in Ill post some pics and sound clips soon.I like the feel of it now with that resistor and it did change the sound a bit more I do notice some sag or less stiffness in the power supply. We first cut the copper lead on the PCB board and wired in my resistor to the chassis to help dissipate heat into the chassis. Then used heat shrink around the bare wire areas to prevent arcing. Man does it sound good once that resistor and amp heat up.Wow so that's what sag is lol. It feels so much different when playing its hard to describe in words its a feel thing.

If I wanted to change filter caps from 100uf 550v to lessen stiffness as well what would be another value that would be good for me? 550v uf?

Re: AMP TECH HELP TO CREATE MORE "SAG"

Jesus...they have 200 mics for the reservoir.
I have never had my hands in one of these things, so i do not know how "easy" they are to work on, but.......lift "one end" of either C10 or C11.
Do you know about high voltage caps.?
This is just a test, you cannot leave it that way...make sure it is all safe.
I would say just pull one of them, but again, i have no idea how easy this thing is to get at.
Can you easily access just One of those first two caps.?

Re: AMP TECH HELP TO CREATE MORE "SAG"

yeah they are easy to get at have to drain them down first though.
