Amp techs: 20w with 2 5881s?

So my Krank Rev Jr uses two 5881s but its only 20 watts. What is the reason they went with these and not a smaller bottle tube? Also, there's a 50w version of the head, could you mod the 20w to 50w with a transformer swap?

Tony just blew out his existing stock (maybe still going on). One of the options was he would take a junior amp and make it 50 watts prior to shipment. I'd contact him for info through the revolution amp site or on FB.

I'm guessing it's just how they run those tubes. Likely cathode biased, or lower voltages. The 5881 is similar to a 6L6GC tube, with lower plate dissipation. You can't just change a transformer and change the wattage. There's a lot more to it than that.

I was under the impression you could swap 5881s for 6l6GCs straight up for more power. Is this not the case?

No, the tube will not generate power that the power supply doesn't have. You can get more power from them, but only if the power supply is up to it.
