Amp trolleys?

How do you guys move your amps around?

My Rocker 30 combo when it comes will be 45kg. I can barely lift a Vox amp that is half that weight.

A chair trolley seems like the kind of thing I'm after but I don't really feel like spending £80 on a glorified heap of metal. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

Cheers

Re: Amp trolleys?

I like the ones that can be expanded from a simple dolly to a moving cart that supports somthing near or more than 500 pounds. they are more expensive but for 200 bucks you'll likely have it most of your life till someone finally invents the "beam up" and "beam down" ray from a flying vehicle-not holding my breath on this one for my lifetime anyway-LOL

Re: Amp trolleys?

Well this is one argument against combos. I bought a Mesa 5:50+ combo and converted it to a head/cab split to avoid hernias, organ damage, internal bleeding, etc. and it's a hell of a lot lighter than 45 kg!

That having been said, one of the morons in my band has a 4x12 without casters. We use a flat little 4 wheel furniture dolly to move it sometimes.

Re: Amp trolleys?

I bought a trolley like the smaller one in this clip at a local hardware store for about $70. It's rated at 100 Kilograms and seems to give the gear a smooth ride due to the neoprene 'tyres'. It's mostly aluminium, weighs very little and folds flat, simple to throw in the car once the gear is loaded.

Re: Amp trolleys?

I'll second the dolly/trolley/2 wheeled fulcrum-lifting-leverage based hauling thing. You can move a fridge with one, 5 ream boxes full of paper with them...you can definitely slide it under a 4x12 and move a full stack right out if you lash down the head to something. The folding ones are nice, or the ones used to move wide stuff like washing machines. The appliance dolly even has treads for going up stairs. If you're hauling a stack upstairs, I'm surprised you're not dead by now.

Re: Amp trolleys?

I use one of the small Rock 'n Roller carts. Handy, very versatile...but heavy. Handles up to 300 pounds.
