Amp Tubes??

I've got a Crate Blue Voodoo BV 120H and I need to get the tubes changed. What kind of tubes do you guys suggest I put in it? The head sounded GREAT with the stock tubes that were in it, but since I need to get them changed I though I might as well try something different. Any help will be appreciated. :)

Thanks Guys

JJs are really popular for rock. I like them for clean and crunch.

Is there a problem with the tubes? I would at least have them checked if you dig the tone you are hearing. MY Plexi RI does well with EH tubes, I really dig their EL 34s. In some amps the EH preamp can get a bit whiny. My Butcher did not like them

Todd at revolutionguitar.com is one of Ebay's biggest tube distributors. Best tubes at the cheapest money.
Tell him gearjoneser or Joe sent you.

I'd go with Svetlana 6L6's and probably leave your pre tubes alone if you like the sound of the amp. For pre's, I'd go with
Tesla JJ ECC83's (12AX7's), Sovtek 12AX7 lps, or GT

Do you know what the Crate BV shipped with?

I thought the BV's used 6L6 tubes. I really like the EH tubes for pre's, although if your BV is a little bright the JJ's will really smooth it out. Think about some NOS pre-amp tubes as well, worth the $20-40 per tube for at least V1, V2 and your phase inverter. I'll never regret the one's I bought, and need to buy some more before stock runs low.

Svetlana 6L6's have received some great reviews from what I've read. I think KT88's will fit also, but can't remember for sure. I think Scott liked those quite a bit.

I have all EH tubes in my 2204. I had Svetlana 6L6s and Sovtek 12ax7LPS tubes in a couple of Fender amps. My Plexi RI has JJs. All good.

For the record, Groove Tubes has a new preamp tube out called a 12AX7M. They are exact replicas of the much sought after Mullard ECC83/!2AX7 magic tubes.

They are just now hitting the internet tube guys. They're about 20 bucks a tube. Groove Tubes is making a nice move lately. They've also got some big bottle EL34's being made now with their own equipment.

Their 6L6GE's are awesome replicas of the General Electric 6L6's, even made with teh same equipment they bought from the old GE plant.

I love NOS tubes. But, I also think we have a responsibility to buy new ones from companies that are investing in new equipment. (as long as the product delivers on the promises!)

I've yet to try the new mullard 12AX7 copies, but I'll be ordering some soon.

Just my two cents. Buy what you want.

I have read a few unfavorable reviews about the so called Mullard copies on the Plexi Palace site. Grainy and unrefined seems to be the theme. A few folks ( who have ears I trust)said they are a decent new tube but nowhere near as rich and complex as the real deal esp at the 26.00 price point. http://vintageamps.com/PlexiPalaceUBBcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=13;t=001187 this thread has some decent thoughts on it.
