I but i dont think you'd need that much gain man, i mean who the hel need s atriple recto head??!?!? that much power and wattage will rip the heads of people in mili seconds!

I've always found the Bogner Ubershall to have considerably more gain than the xxx.

The 5150 has the most gain stages of just about anything out there (6). For example the rectos have 4.

all the amps gj mentions have more than enough gain... you lose the dynamics when you get up to a certain level.

Get a Randall RM head with a High gain module like the recto. And guess what, it's priced well under 2000! They have even higher gain modules so check 'em out.
What's the biggest importance of the number of gain stages? More compression?

i think it is more compressed and the tone get darker with a 6. gainstage (brown) in theory. but i'm not sure.
there is a interesting article around the web about the history of amps, which has how much gain stages, which design copies which etc. I'm sorry that i lost the link...

For those that need even more distortion...
The ZVex Mammoth distorts the slopes of your signal wave. As said, after a point it's just a square wave and you can't clip the top anymore without just compressing it. But you CAN distort the slopes!
