I hear they are like the VT series of the 70s but with quicker breakup... I would buy the 2x12 right now if I had the money I LOVE the ampeg sound

Re: Ampeg GVT52-112

I'm kind of an Ampeg nut, so I tried most of them as soon as they showed up at Tru-Tone here in L.A. My thoughts: they sound pretty darned good, however I simply would not buy a new (i.e. overseas-built) Ampeg. They seem poorly built, and are overpriced. To me, the plywood (i.e. not particle board) 1x12 extension cabinet for $250 to $300 retail price seems like the best buy of the entire GVT line. My two cents: pass on these, and get an actual V series amp from the '70's, or even a Diamond Blue Series Ampeg (made by SLM).

i like the Ampeg sound too. i also think the new series is overpriced. it bothers me that no one plays Ampeg bass amps anymore also.

the youtube clips of the new series seem a little bit sterile sounding. the one i played at GC didn't sound sterile exactly, but maybe a little thin sounding. but maybe i didn't dial it in enough.

I see a lot of SVT's out there in the name bands, vintage and reissue. Ampeg also just reissued the V4B head and cab, I wish they'd reissue the V2 and V4 guitar amp heads. They seem to only have one guitar head now, the new 15 watter. The wide 2-12 ext. cabs do look like good cabs at a bargain price, I'm interested in one of those.
