amps amps and more amps

Re: amps amps and more amps

what the hell is a bogner? and ive never heard of celtic amps till yesterday,

Never tried a Celtic amp. But Bogner has been around for years. Reinhold Bogner used to do mods on Marshalls and other amps, and successfully restored EVH's #1 plexi at one point. I've tried most big name boutique amps an to my ears the Bogner stuff was more musical, dynamic, full, etc than most others. I A/B'd the Bogner Shiva and XTC heads at a friend's music store to amps from Matchless, DR.Z, Tophat, Soldano, H&K, Budda, VHT, Mesa, and more. Nothing else compared to my ears. For nice, classic, gritty complex tones I think that the Bogner Shiva and XTC excel. You owe it to yourself to try one out. I've been in love with that sound since I first heard it several years ago. And within the next year I will have one. That same friend who owns the music store has owned just about everything and has quite the collection, but his two working amps are the Bogner Shiva and XTC. They are that good IMO. The only other amp maker I'd throw in there in terms of big name boutique stuff is Diezel. The Herbert and VH4 heads are supposed to be top notch and are even more expensive than most Bogners at about $4K new and $3K used. The Diezel is supposed to excel at the new metal hi-gain stuff. I'd love to try one, but you don't find them in most music stores...

For Bogner MP3 sound samples go to the Bogner website. The samples are contributed by very well-known players and sound great. But as good as they sound, plugging yourself into a Bogner sounds even better IMO. The sound is so rich and creamy that you feel it deep inside! (Dang... you'd think I was an endorser or something. I wish they'd give me one!)

For hi-gain stuff check-out George Lynch's samples in the Uberschall section... YUMMAY!

Bogner.....yeah, I need an XTC.....

Red Label summed it up well. I have played a Shiva, it was spectacular, but doesn't cover everything I would like. I have played the Uberschall, again it was spectaluar, but I like the Mesa high gain (there is some kind of magical syrup in the low mids) just a bit more for that type of sound.....

....the XTC, I can't find one to play in person...which is good, I suspect I would be just a bit poorer if I did.

Yup... I've had some very nice amps since playing the Shiva and XTC (H&K Triamp MkI, Traynor YCS100, and Traynor Custom Blue 50). And I'm very happy with the two Traynors I have now (and loved the Triamp as well). But when you play the best, everything else is lacking. So until I achieve my tone goals (getting a Shiva and/or XTC), I will always feel something missing. They are THAT good.

The XTC is just a lot more versatile than the Shiva. The XTC has a "plexi" mode which is pretty much where the Shiva lives. But it also has a higher-gain thing going as well. It's a very versatile amp. I'd love to have the XTC, but am shooting for the Shiva EL34 head with reverb because it's about $7-800 less on the used market at this point and does what I need it to do. I would have already had one by now but I got distracted and bought the H&K Triamp because of it's AWESOME sparkly clean tone. I loved that amp, but the Bogners get better dirt, so I should have just held-off and got the Shiva. I'm happy with the Traynors, so my next stop will be a Bogner and that'll likely be my last stop. Not too many amps out there will top the quality of tone of the Bogner stuff for what I'm looking for...

Re: amps amps and more amps

Bogners are badass, that's for sure. I was at a shop last wk trying out an orange and one of the owners was jamming out on the xtc w/matching cab. I had to go over to that side of the store to find out what the hell sounded so good, and sure enough it was the xtc. Man I wish I had the money for one of those.

If I lost everything in life, you'd see me as a homeless guy standing on the end of an offramp clutching my Bogner Ecstasy head. That's how much I love it.

There's no modest way of putting it......it's the best amp ever designed.

Dood... you're killing me here. I'm going to have to sell a kidney or something here. Every freakin' single day this week I was on the Bogner site listening to sound samples. I last plugged into a Bogner two years ago and I still can't get them out of my head. I should have had one (or two) by now, but I let these other hobbies of mine (guns and DSLR cameras) divert the needed funds. This year is my year for a Bogner for sure. It "BOGNER'S" my mind that everyone doesn't own one of them. ;)
