AMT Stonehead doing Stoner/sludge..

watch where you point that sabre
AMT STONEHEAD:

I just discovered the "voicing" knob on Lead channel #1 can do some pretty great sludgy stuff when you turn it counterclockwise. It (quite drastically) changes everything coming out of the amp sound-wise...

Most of the demo's on youtube are modern metal/djent or whatever (& it does the meaty/tight modern stuff great) But buying it "blind", I was a bit worried it might not do the 80's metal/doom thing etc quite as well.. turns out I was wrong...

I'm using my cheap chinese handheld recorder a few inches from the grill ..not very professional haha..but it's closer to the actual sound I hear out in front (massive!). Much better than the line/emulated speaker out recording I tried before (could'nt use a proper mic since it was like 3:00 am.. :lmao:)

Guitar's my Dinky (9-42 Roto's tuned a half-step down)
My new Laney LX 4x12
No effects or pre/post production..just the raw track from the recorder..

Super sloppy improv'd riffs (...been too busy ****ing around tweaking knobs/cabs/cables and not really playing much of anything over the last couple weeks or so..)

Nice! I'll be interested in your reactions when you start playing with crunch channel for some classic 70's metal sounds too.

Lead 1 is also a favorite of mine for that voicing knob fine tuning.

Crunch channel is my most used on mine right now though. I have mine nailing a modded Plexi sound by itself, then I can kick in my OCD with its gain on 2, volume on 3, and nail a JCM800 sound which is what I use for 80's metal.

The amp is just phenomenal at being able to dial in favorite amp sounds. 6505 sounds are easy to get too. I have an MXR ten band EQ in my loop for fine tuning different amp sounds. Right now though, crunch has me wooping it up with its wooly tones and some Sabbath, Zep type stuff and kickin in the OCD for anything from Mercyful Fate to Van Halen 1 tones.

I get inspired listening to clips on youtube of stuff from Fargen, Ceriatone, Bogner, Suhr, then go try to pull that stuff out of the Stonehead and very successfully pull it off (with help from extra EQ)

Stonehead is amazing by itself too just straight into the amp. Extremely versatile. Its got that feel too. Great response to playing dynamics and guitar volume knob cleanup.

I gotta record some clips soon.

Re: AMT Stonehead doing Stoner/sludge..

Thanks guys..that was very quickly done & rough around the edges. Recorded just so I'd be able to remember/recreate it later - more than anything.

The volume was way too low at the start (lead) and I turned it up a bit just before the first riff. There are some really cool tones for soloing to be had though..excellent for bluesy stuff & shred/metal. Killer for tapping too which I'm pretty excited about :laugh2:

I've messed about with the crunch a bit as well..it's a really cool channel. I did the intro to Hell's Bells and that sounded really spot-on/plexi-like..also played some Zep which sounded fantastic as well. Not really done that much with pedals ...but then I'm not a huge pedal user & tend to just maybe have some 'verb or delay in the loop sometimes. I did try my Harmonizer in the loop the other day & it sounded awesome..

Nothing to complain about really - except maybe the emulated speaker out which makes things sound a bit too dry. I guess I could EQ to compensate though...just need to experiment a bit/get the hang of it.

Probably my favorite clip you've done yet! Sounds super sick. Great leads at the beginning man.

Try a bit of reverb or slap-back in your DAW after recording the track. I find that anything I record direct needs a bit of treatment to sound more authentic and lively.

Thanks dude :beerchug:

@dystrust: Thanks man..I'll give that a go. Turns out I needed the amp volume turned up a bit more for the speaker emulated output to sound decent....had the amps volume too low & the mic preamp on my recorder too high when I tried it before..

I gave the Speaker emulated line-out another try (same as before no FX/pre-post prod) jst aimless bluesy doodling..

It sounds way better with the amp's volume up at about 3 ...still a bit dry sounding but very usable...

Re: AMT Stonehead doing Stoner/sludge..

yeah. tasty tones. nice. Sounds like you are getting familiar with settings fast.

Re: AMT Stonehead doing Stoner/sludge..

Please don't tempt me with a good-sounding solidstate amp with a funny name. I've bought enough amps this year...

Haha..cheers...yeah, the tones keep getting better & better the more I mess around....been getting some SWEET recorded tones out from the speaker emulation/line-output too.

Re: AMT Stonehead doing Stoner/sludge..

I've been messing around a lot with this little beast and damn it takes pedals like a champ ...better than any of my other amps. Tried it with my wah, fuzz & a couple of overdrives & distortion pedals up in front...some delay, chorus and reverb/my Mooer pitchbox in the loop ...no matter what I try ..it all sounds awesome!

The only thing I'm a bit hesitant to try is no-load recording. It's apparently no problem...but I'm still nervous lol.

...and I just bought some new 3/4" rubber feet for it so it won't have to tilt/balance on my Randall's handle like it's doing now :laugh2:

More to come.. ;)
