I plugged this in for less than 10 minutes and I KNEW I had to have this! Played amazing, weights a metric ton (definitely not chambered) Japanese made Epiphone LP Standard. Whomever owned this before really put some work into it and put some insane vintage and upgraded parts on it. Gotoh tuners/bridge/tailpiece, bone nut, 50s style wiring, orange bleeder caps, CTS pots, and these INSANE Pickups. This vintage JB sound UNBELIEVABLE in this guitar. I know there are the stories of JB's sounding like garbage in LP's but this thing just rips and has immense tone! The paint job has been "relec'd" somewhat oddly but i actually like it quite a bit. The body is in actually great shape-no major damage at all.

As for the neck pickup, it has a PAF sticker on it. Does anybody have a rough estimate on the date of this thing? I am guessing it is early-mid 70s?

all of this guitar.....for a measly $499.......:headbang:

Re: An amazing NGD!!!

Modern Gibson pickups like the 57 classic and Burstbuckers have that sticker on too. And thats what I'd guess you have.

Re: An amazing NGD!!!

Wow man...an open-book Epiphone. That thing is a rare find for sure. I like the galaxy black finish too, looks like a refin huh? The red binding under it enhances the character. The frets look pretty fat too. Congrats!

It's this type of thing that makes me wonder if Guitar Center looks at what they take in used before they sell it. Good find!

Guitar Center only looks at the condition of the guitar, how it plays, and prices it accordingly when it’s sold to them. They don’t look at the value of upgrades, and will even value the guitar lower if it’s not stock.

You get good deals in the used section by taking advantage of a prior owners upgrades - often I’ve seen a set of EMG’s in a guitar they were selling for $250

Yeah you don't see many of those. What model is this? Did they make a special run with those headstocks?

The best I ever saw was a $300 MIM Strat that was in horrible shape, it did however have a Dave Murray loaded pickguard in almost mint condition.

Re: An amazing NGD!!!

Saw? Or bought? That would've been MIIIIINE, ALLLL MIIIIIINNE!

Of course I bought it. I straightened the neck, did a partial refret, refinished it, and sold it for $700. Pretty sweet deal.

Re: An amazing NGD!!!

thats a great guitar alright! the bridge pup is probably mid/late 80's and the neck is newer than that, 90's at the earliest. id love that thing!

I dont know who the "M" is in the winder designation but nonetheless, it sounds incredible. Destroys the modern day version. It measures 15.95K on the meter.

So the neck pickup coud be a Burstbucker or Classic 57? the sticker looks "worn". there is residue from another sticker next to it. Measures about 8.20 on the meter.

Regardless, i am in love this guitar. I was up till 2am playing and inspecting it. I own over 20 guitars and this is in my top 5 for sure! I did some research and this is a 1999 Epiphone LPS-80 or 85. Dont really know since it has been repainted but i dont think this has a figured top or anything. looks pretty plain from the parts that are exposed.

The pics you texted me were cool but to see it on the big screen... nice score bro! Guess that LP Studio is going down the road....
