The fingerboard of my Steinberger is made from sheets of paper in epoxy, so no reason why this shouldn't work well.

The fretboard on my Gibson is made in the same manner with Richlite and I love it. It is very smooth but not glassy like plastic, it is much easier to control the pitch of your bends.

Reminds me of this Polish company Ruf Guitars I've seen a video of recently. They use Richlite for the fretboard, but the guitars are all one piece molded from Ruffaine, some kind of proprietary epoxide composite.

I know right? I've searched every page so I could give a better description than "proprietary epoxide composite", which sounds like made up marketing lingo. The video on their site vaguely mentions glass-fibre, carbon-fibre and epoxy resin.

Mm, people have been experimenting with paper/cardboard for quite a long time. Back in 1862, Antonio de Torres made a guitar with papier mâché back and sides, presumably to prove that the top was the most important component in sound production. We don't actually have any direct anecdotes from Torres himself about this guitar and his thoughts/motivations regarding it.

Belgian builder Walter Verreydt replicated the concept in one of his guitars some years ago.

I think when you start explaining that it is some kind of paper + superglue material, the perceived value goes down.
