These pedals are hotter than hell but they're both on a long waiting list! The AnalogMan King Of Tone overdrive has at least 4 to 5 months on the waiting list while Fulltone's Obsessive Compulsive Drive is at at least a couple of months on the waiting list! Both botique high-end pedals are on almost on the same price range with AnalogMan KOT a bit more expensive than the Fulltone OCD. I'm trying to decide which one to get before i get into the looooong list and i'm trying to ask a little help from fellow Players out there that are already enjoying one of these Overdrives about your honest opinion and what you think of them. I know these ovedrives react and sound differently on different Amp Types but your experience will help me decide. Thank you in advance. I'm so curious on how great these pedals really are. I remember when i got the Fulltone Distortion Pro when it first came out ( It was like #27 off the production line. First batch! ), i bought one without hearing any opinion from other players out of excitement and i didn't even like it at all. I ended up selling it after a couple of days trying to find a good sound out of it. It was very disappointing.

I had the same experience with the DP1 and sold mine just as quick! It had this terrible buzzy crap riding over notes and made everything sound very ss to me?

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

I got my OCD Monday, and within one week I'm completely awed by it. It's simply the best, most useable pedal I've bought in the 23 years I've been playing music. Words I'd use to describe it? Versatile, organic, quiet, transparent, F'ing INCREDIBLE!
It can go from low gain to much 'higher than you'd think gain' settings without compromising anything. It sounds great on either end and straight down the middle.
I like the OCD so much, that I will be buying another soon enough. Try www.musictoyz.com for ordering an OCD. Great service and a fair price.

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

They hype on the OCD is certainly attractive.
Snook, how would you say it compares to my FD2/Fat Boost combo?

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

I got my OCD (#17) on Wednesday.

I haven't had the chance to put it through the paces with enough different guitars and amps yet.

I have to be honest - I seem to be getting some ghost noting, or weird harmonic thing going on, but again, not enough test to draw conclusions about that. But the OCD does seem pretty transparent - it seems to expand the basic amp tone when engaged. There's also gobs of volume available - unity is around 1/4 of the way up for me.

I really intended to wait and post after I've gotten a good sense of the OCD, but this thread has kind of reminded me to A/B the OCD with both my FDII, and Maxon 820.

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

Curly, do you think this 'ghosting' is due to the high harmonic order of the circuitry?

TO,
ooo ... you've got me there :smack:

you know, this is something I notice running ODs with my tweed Deluxe sometimes, and seems to be a problem with my tweed Champ even without ODs, so there might be something to the harmonic order idea, since the Champ is class A.

So far, I've used my Blues Jr and DRRI. I think I noticed it more on the DRRI. Since that amp is a '94, I won't completely rule out the filter caps as the culprit.
I'll get to the bottom of it when I A/B with a couple other pedals though.

I only mentioned the problem for the sake of full disclosure - I don't know if it's me or not. :smack:
To be fair, I've tried other ODs that are regarded as transparent, like the Barber DD, but I felt that pedal lacked character. I haven't tried a boost, other than the SD Pickup Booster. But the OCD has the ability to expand the dynamic range and harmonic content of the amp.

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

I'm anxious to check out an OCD. I've noticed that the very best clean boost/OD's are always VERY loud, which means that unity gain is around 1/4th on volume.
Also, the cleaner your amp is, the louder it seems to be. So far, the 2 clean boost/OD pedals I've had/used are the Klon Centaur and Banzai Coldfusion. This OCD sounds like it's designed very much the same way. They're finally getting OD's to sound just as good as turning up the gain and volume on your amp......which essentially adds another channel or two.

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

The only real trouble with "transparent" pedals is they need to be play loud in live situations, or be used with an amp that has the mids in the right place.
Amps with a typical classic fender clean are not going to like those kinds of drives very much!
My Plexitone sounds good on Marshall like amps and Hiwatts, but on a typical fender I need to turn up the midrange well up to get anything useful without playing at insane levels.
In short it does not like a typical fatassed american amp very much;)

Thanks for all the input gentlemen, we're getting a lot of great info here. The OCD is very tempting indeed :naughty: . In comparison to the Fulldrive II tone wise, any distinct characteristics? How about the AnalogMan King Of Tone? Any lucky brother out there have one of these?
Looks a bit more complex than the Fulldrive II ain't it?

...sounds like you need to try a G2D classic. Very usable with fender amps.

Re: AnalogMan KOT or Fulltone OCD?

I got put on the waiting list for the Analogman King of Tone back in September, my e-mail still hasn't come up yet!
