And now for something completely different-

JeffB

Let it B
I've been searching for MONTHS for something exciting..and different from what I normally play. My criteria was

1) Not a pointy. Preferably a *GASP* Strat of some type
2) No cheap tone-deficient crap MIK/MIC/MII/MIT woods
3) extreme quality build
4) absolute "player" i.e...mojo
5) Wouldnt cost me an arm and a leg. So I was def looking for MIJ..either old or new. Possibly the right MIA guitar.

I searched and search and came up with nothing. At least that I could afford. Strats always feel so alien to me and I was having a difficult time. So I basically gave up and went back to my same ol' same ol'.:banghead:

And then BAM. Out of the blue. Not expecting to, I find "it"...sitting in a guitar store in New Haven (an hour away form me). Its in ****ed good shape for a 20 year old guitar. In fact my GF's cam makes it look not so nice, but in actuality this thing is a 9 outta 10 condition. Just some wear on the pickups, and a few scratches.

Oh yeah..even the case drips mojo

These fretboard inlays should give it away for the 80s SUPA-STRAT fans. 24 fret Ebony board that looks like rosewood in the pics but is extremely uniform and jet black without the flash. This ebony board is nicer than the one on my Dean. :eyecrazy:

OK..Not the way cool buddy blaze polka dot or lightning patterns, but I'm not complaining..Sparkle blue looks very nice :D

Here's the giveaway if ya still don't know what it is

Re: And now for something completely different-

Is is bad that I knew it was a Kramer from just seeing the case?

Well, I knew it was a Swan from the inlays, and you're about 100X the Kramer aficionado I am, so I guess it's not THAT bad :)

Sweet guitar. I love the pickup config on those, and the inlays. Am I correct in thinking that they 24.75" scale, or am I thinking of an ESP with a similar deep cutaway?

Re: And now for something completely different-

Yeah, well, I knew what it was before he even posted the pics. ;) Not kidding either. :)

Bro, that is sweet. Really sweet. I am totally jealous. Whoever had this took really good care of it. I'm really jealous.

Chris, it's 24 3/4" scale.

Re: And now for something completely different-

A Kramer! You da man Jeff! My number one is a Kramer too ;) Those inlays are funky. You can ask me if you ever need help with the Floyd.

Re: And now for something completely different-

Hey thanks everyone! I can see why these are so sought after by Kramer fans. I hadn't played one in close to 20 years so I had no idea what to expect.

Yes its Gibbo scale..prolly the reason I immediately "took" to it. Short fingers.

I hate recessed floyds and this is not, so that also is one reason it feels much better to me than your typical jackson or Ibanez or ESP or whatever (though technically this *IS* an ESP, LOL)

I asked to play it on a whim, and from the first open G chord I KNEW I was gonna buy it. It was setup in E flat though, so the guy said if I could give him an hour he'd set it up for me in E. I went to go grab some lunch and was so psyched I gave ErikH a call on the phone to tell him what I was getting :bigthumb:

I'm not totally digging the full shred (output is perfect, nice crunch but BRIGHT and NO Bass). And actually I HATE the middle pup...always have on any guitar...gets in the way of my picking but I'll get used to it (or roll the middle pup down since I dont really use it).

The mini toggle is an aftermarket 3 way that is bucker, split and I guess parallel? (or whatever the non standard wiring is). It only works on the JB (middle pup), not on the Full shred. It does do a very nice clean tone when the JB is split, but meh...I think I'll have it converted to a pre-amp/boost for the middle pup in order to make it more full like a neck pup.

This thing is really just in incredible shape and cliche as it may sound...it plays like butter...vibrato and bends are just effortless. Super solid feel, but pretty light weight. I'd say 7.5-7.75 pounds. Not bad for a floyd, mahogany body and an ebony board.

Re: And now for something completely different-

Might not be my choice for guitars but a nice one at that. Good grab.

BTW, coming to the DEan Open House in February?

Def a change of pace for me...though its a nice inbetween a "regular" Supastrat and a Gibson type design.....again prolly why I like it so much.

No idea about February. I'df love to, but...Doubtful. Its very tough for me to get away from work and my son...even to get home and see my family in VA for a couple days. FL is pushing it :D We'll see.

Re: And now for something completely different-

Scweet. I always thought those looked rad, but I can't get past the middle pickup fukkin' up my picking! LOL Bet that sparkle blue looks amazing in daylight/stagelight...

What were the damages on that one?

Re: And now for something completely different-

I'd prefer 25.5" scale, but that thing is cool. Great find!

Re: And now for something completely different-

have you considered puttin the JB in the bridge and the FS in the middle?

Re: And now for something completely different-

Hey thanks everyone...

I kept seeing something weird about the pic I posted..but couldnt quiter place my finger on it... so last night, while watching a movie with my GF I broke out the polish and rag and went over the guitar. ..looks even nicer now...had kind of a "film" on it...and hardly any dings or scratches considering its age

But I figured out what was "weird"... middle pup is some kind of Dimarzio or other brand pup. Flat black bobbins and def not 20 years old. Its sitting MUCH lower than the full shred to balance volume-wise, so I'm thinking whatever it is, it's prolly pretty hot. I'd have to pull it and see whats on the bottom.

Also the Full shred is gibbo spaced...guitar needs a trembucker..wonder if this is an original Full Shred and Kramer just put in Gibbo spaced versions? or the original died and the owner replaced it?

Kinda cool wondering about an old guitar's history :bigthumb:

Awesome.
Now you can go jam out some Def-Leppard. ;)

hey I like Def Leppard....but that was an insult :28: ;)

I've been messing around trying to re-learn old Dio and 1987 era Whitesnake tunes since I got it, LOL. The guitar is actually really well suited for that George Lynch kinda thing though.

BTW..I had viv's Riverdogs album back in the day (late 80s) and that was a GREAT album.Much more pop-ish but with some heavy guitar work of course.

After Whitesnake/Riverdogs he got infected with Alex Lifeson Disease :(

MORE PICS!!!! :bigthumb:

:D

I'm not surprised the pickups may not be stock. Lots of Kramers ended up that way. Good thing is you can still get what came in it stock and slap 'em in there if you want. I'd be tempted to throw a lower output pickup in the middle though.
