The High Voltage humbucker set was developed for one of rock’s most iconic and devilish guitarists. He was looking for a pickup that had a vintage flavor but with the ability to get real mean and dirty. Although this pickup set shares some similarities with the Pearly Gates, it takes a noticeable shift. It’s very bluesy and clean with not a lot of low end, great for driving a cranked Marshall as you blast out stinging leads and crunchy rhythms.



One of the keys to the High Voltage sound is the selection of specifically calibrated Alnico II magnets to provide an even response between the bridge and neck pickups. The neck pickup is wound to a DC resistance of 7.7k, with the bridge wound a little hotter at 8.6k for a little more sonic T.N.T.

Interesting - this would probably be one of the few pickups R&D'ed in and developed specifically for an SG.

My understanding is that the Gibson Angus Young pickup is an overwound A5 - evidently pretty bright/potentially harsh. I wonder how this set compares.

PG is already a high-end-emphasized pickup. If this has even less low end, wow, maybe it's getting into Seth Lover territory.

Got mine last month. I dug into the background a little, talking to MJ and Frank about what the work they did with Angus when he took his #1 and #2 guitars to Seymour to have some work done.

I just noticed this is a Custom Shop set. I'm bummed these won't be a standard production model, but I'm still excited that Duncan is releasing something new.

It's been around since about '09-'10. It's just been another "secret menu" item.

Indications are that it was a move to strike while the iron was hot with that Rig Rundown.

First saw the Dokkenbucker a few years ago. MJ said she's been making it since the 80s. I wonder if it makes people think they might be missing out by trying to order via a custom shop website, when they might happen on a "secret menu" item if they ran their tonal goals past MJ.

This actually depends on where you live. In the US, the price is on the website link in the first post. Outside of the US, you have to go through your authorized dealer.

Even though he got booted from the Duncan roster due in part to the Arcane deal, I've seen him pimp the DD here lately. The Dokkenbucker would have been there for most of the tunes he's "known" for. He was also offering it as an option on those "unique" guitars he's been putting together....although the impression I got from someone at Duncan was that it might have been dodgey to suggest they were available exclusively via him.

Any of U guys know which pickups Angus has used on His SG's up till now ?

MJ made the AY set for him about 6-7 years ago. According to the rig rundown, it's what's in there now.

My Gal says He's in Japan rt. now so I wont bug Him about it immediately . Another thing , I dont see Him cloning many of the Same pickups into many of His personal guitars. Neither of us have ever done much of that. He uses alot of different guitars for different Tunes like I do (when needed ) . If ya knew him like we do ~ He keeps things like that private Anyway , guards His real trade secrets so to speak . Oh almost forgot - I've never known Him to get Booted from Anyone, from Anywhere at Anytime for Anything , He Normally just walks when the Relationship is over .
