MISFORTUNE
(c) 2009

I had a silver in my pocket but the Hangman, he was taking gold
I needed one more hour but the bells had all begun to toll
I found passage on a galley but she went down in a raging see
I woke up on an iron shore a hundred leagues from where I meant to be

Out of the heat, into the fire
Under the blade, bad times, bad signs, unfulfilled desire
Misfortune

I was swept up by a river overflowing with the Autumn rain
I was wrongly charged but the High Lord cast me down in chains
I had a shot at vengeance but my arrow, it went astray
I had a chance at bliss but my true love turned away

No steed to bear me home
No love to call my own
Misfortune

No wine to slake my thirst
No balm to soothe my hurts
Misfortune

No roof to shelter me
No charm to set me free
Misfortune

Re: Another demo! Thin Lizzy/Deep Purple/Rush-ish type of song

Well this one had a Priest kind of thing going on for me. Circa 81/82, then @ 2:00 kinda hear that rush/lizzy thing.- or even maybe a Pat travers kinda vibe.

Ben- several months back I was flipping through channels and "That Metal show" was on VH1- and I could of sworn I saw PJ on the "trivia" part of the show, was I just imagining things??

HA! Nice call!

Yeah, we were there for the premier episode. Show turned out to be a total joke. Poseur central.

Re: Another demo! Thin Lizzy/Deep Purple/Rush-ish type of song

This also reminded me of Badlands-PJ is channeling some Ray Gillen- (who of course is Rob H, Robert P, Ian G, and David C all rolled up in one)

You, my friend, have got some good ears for rock.

The entire project (which was originally my 'side project' when TO went into hiatus) was originally inspired by Badlands. In fact, the original name for the project was Devil's Stomp. Badlands is a definite source of inspiration, mixed with just about everything else I can fit into a single song and left to stew.

The more I dig into some of the more obscure early '70s bands, the more influences I am able to call upon. Recent favourites include Trapeze, Lucifer's Friend, and a few others.

Re: Another demo! Thin Lizzy/Deep Purple/Rush-ish type of song

IDK if you've ever really checked out his stuff, but definitely look into Tommy Bolin's solo work- you'll hear where Jake got alot of his inspiration. Unfortunately his work with Deep Purple MKIV was absolutely awful- what a waste.

I "rediscovered" the 70s stuff, IDK, about 5 years ago or so? went back to alot my fave (very late 60s and) 70s material I enjoyed as a teen/20 something,as well as branched out digging into my influences influences. There is ALOT of great material there from both sides of the Atlantic.

I love the project bro! Def running right along with my own tastes.

There are come good tunes that came out of that lineup, but Bolin was pretty far gone at that point ...

I have the Hartman Tommy Bolin fuzz, which I use as a clean boost/fuzz on a lot of stuff, so yeah -- I'm familiar with is work. :)

You should check out Bolin's band, Zephyr. I have their first (only?) album on CD. Killer stuff!

Re: Another demo! Thin Lizzy/Deep Purple/Rush-ish type of song

Oh, and speaking of Badlands influences, check out the first track (Memory Pain) on the Johnny Winter album, Second Winter. A LOT of bands should be paying Winter royalties for the amount of riffage 'borrowed' from that album ... (Rush, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple ... I'm looking at you!!)
