Another easily impressed Gen Z guitarist...

I don't think it's a question of being shocked anymore. It just about appreciating the imagery. Much as I love/worship Andy LaRocque..I love the whole package...cheesy or not.

In fact.. I am a huge sucker for cheese/atmosphere/imagery and the like....It might be old news for most...but I'm no spring chicken & have a sentimentall/nostalgic nature in general ..so for me stuff like that never ever gets old :bigthumb:

"Remember when Satan and Dungeons and Dragons scared us, kids?"

*kids, in unison* "No."

It always will be.. :bigthumb:

Metal should be all about Satan, dungeons and dragons, dwarfs, goblins, battle, gore etc...not "oh no I was molested by my drunk dad & his friends as a child and now I'm depressed" or " my girlfriend dumped for a dude w/ a bigger schlong & so I'll cut myself cuz I'm sad"

Lol..damn right you're fucking sad :lmao:

Eh, I love Therion even though they're sort of in the fantasy category, they're grounded in theology, mysticism, history, real stuff.

Megadeth's "Five Magics?" Love the tune. Sil-lee lyrics. :)

Personal stuff is more real, but yeah, the millionth song you hear about lost love gets old.

Yeah, and why would you need Metal for that **** anyway...

But you mentioned Therion (longtime fan, let's throw in the ****in' Messiah, Thomas Vikstrom & Kritsian Niemann as well) :bigthumb:

Love Neiman. He was at GIT a few years before me (I think 93-4 while I was 99-00). Love his legato playing.

Chris Johnsson made a big mistake booting the Niemans. We ended up with "Les Fleurs du Mal"...

I'm more familiar with Vikstrom's Candlemass work. Mats Levin was also in Therion and Candlemass. Great singing.

And of course Marcolin.

Robert Lowe was a great singer in Candlemass too.

For me Candlemass prettty much begins and ends with Messiah Marcolin. I like some Lowe stuff & Vikstrom. But yeah. Messiah era Candlemass is where it's at AFAIC..

My bandmate Vik really likes that ^^ album though..

Mike Amott was in there briefly.

It's all Leif Edling anyway. He just uses the Candlemass name when convenient.

Oh and Epicus was pretty sweet (especially w/ Messiah singing those tracks live :laugh2:) ...though I did'nt think that last one they did with Längqvist was all that great. His voice sounded good though.

Langqvist sounded great on the first record. Marcolin makes me a laugh a little, but in a good way.

I like how they were able to mix doom and melody. Most of the doom stuff here in the South is really boring to listen to.

Bugger off...Marcolin is EPIC af :lmao:

I hate stoner stuff w/ the crappy recycled unmemorable 10th rate Sabbath riffs...

All the dudes here rip off Crowbar and Necrosis and Acid Bath. They play SGs and Les Pauls and grow out huge beards and wear ripped up camo shorts and combat boots.

Need I go on? :)
