I call it The Roadkillcaster. It looks a lot better in the picture than live.

I paid $25.00 for it. It has two Select EMG made pups and a Fender Lace Sensor gold script. Someone sanded it all down and stained it. They also painted the pup guard black. It has a hum when you plug it in. They said it was originally a Squire.

Good points: The frets are very nice and the guitar is really light.

I have a project here. I am going to have to;

1. resand the whole thing and finish with tung oil.

2. sand and repaint the pup guard with Krylon paint for plastic. Unless I can get a used pup guard for dirt cheap.

3. Fix the screw holes where the non Fender screws are.

4. Rewire, check pots and switch to see why the hum?

5. Find a strap button and screw.

6. Some of the clay dots are grungy and sunken in.

I do not know how to do wiring or check pups to see if they are good or not. I guess I should buy a multi-meter.

Maybe I could part it out and sell it on flea bay too.

That looks like either a Squier (sic.) MiC Affinity or MiI Standard Series Stratocaster. In my opinion, an ideal first project guitar on which to learn.

Heat up the soldering iron, fella. Two of those pickups need to come off straight away. I would be inclined to list the Select pickups on eBay. If you feel lazy, just wait for Beandip to make you an offer. ;)

21 frets, it's an Affinity. You can keep that toothpick of a neck there DLT. Have fun fixing it up though.

Looks great for $25. I'd keep her. Get a digital multi-meter at your local Harbor Freight. Or go online. Cheap, they work fine.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I got this guitar off Craig's List. Had to travel about 60 miles to get it, but it was all highway driving and a nice day for a cruise.

I will check out that multi-meter, Carl. Thank you.

You should put the Fat Possum Logo on the bottom half of the body while you're at it.

I am going to do something. I think I am going to sand the body down to raw wood and leave it like that.

I am going to buy a loaded pup guard and install that instead of messing with what I have. What a mess under the current pickguard. One of the pickups have the ears broken off, so that leaves me with a Fender Lace gold and a Select Korean made pup by EMG. (sell those on flea bay if they test good)

So far I have sanded down the neck where the guy put a finish on. I cleaned up the fretboard. The dots are mother of pearl. They look a lot better but not 100% perfect.

After I sanded the finish off the headstock, I could see where the Squire logo was stripped off. I had to sand that area for 1/2 hour to get it so it was not visible. It was down to raw wood, but I could see the imprint if I looked real hard.

$25 - heck, buy a new pick guard. That krylon paint thing won't work/last and it will be a pain.

Aceman,
The Krylon paint is pretty amazing for plastics. It sticks well and is durable, but not better than a new pickguard. It is an option, but you are correct it being a pain.

There are some great deals on ebay for loaded pickguards. I might just do the double humbucker, then I do not have to worry about single coil noise. I am not going much over $50.00 with shipping for the loaded pickguard. I do not want to stick too much into this guitar being it is a Squire.

This is the one I figure will do the job.
