Another Screamin' Demon in the neck thread

For the past few years, I've been using a Demon in the bridge and have loved it from the moment it was installed. Works perfectly for what I like. I've also been hearing that it makes a great neck pickup but haven't tried it there until now. I snagged one from the Trading Post and slapped it in over the weekend. Initially, I was looking for a standard spaced model but since the bridge on this guitar has wide spacing, turns out a trembucker lines up just fine. In fact, it lines up a bit better.

Once I got heights adjusted, I put it through the paces (clean, light OD, moderate OD, heavy OD) and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. I love how the tone is essentially the same in the bridge vs. neck, aside from the obvious warmer tone in the neck. Each one has its own tone control with a .018uf cap on the neck and a .022uf cap on the bridge.

I should've tried this long ago. Another +1 for the Demon being a really good neck pickup. And when paired with one in the bridge, makes a solid combination.

so um.. how does it compare to say, a Jazz or a '59, if you've had the chance to try those?

Compared to the '59 Model - fuller, more mids, not woofy, better balance.

Compared to the Jazz - no where near as sterile, better cut, not as spikey.

It still has that growl and the cut is real nice. It's great going back and forth on the 3-way switch and not hearing an EQ difference other than the naturally warmer sound from the neck position.

I was having a hard time deciding between a Demon and a Full Shred Neck model for the neck position of a future strat upgrade, seeing as I was leaning towards a Full Shred for the bridge, but the way you describe it sounds like pretty much what I want to hear from a neck humbucker but have never yet heard.

Double Demons eh? So many pickup combos, so little time (and money). Glad to hear it. If I were to do it, I'd put an A4 in the neck and an A8 in the bridge. Hmmm, maybe I can find an inexpensive Ibby or Epi to try it in...

I have the same set up and just installed an A8 in the bridge demon humbucker. Its is awesome. Just the right amount of change to the EQ. Really solid setup and I can't say enough good things about dual demons. They sounds great, split well, and are just an amazingly versatile pickup for just about everything.

I'm running a Screamin Demon in the neck and a JB2 in the bridge of my built from high end parts ProMod. No complaints.

I'd say the Screamin Demon doesn't have that "flutiness" that you get with say, a BB1 in the neck.

My ProMod has a dark powerful presence (for being a white guitar with maple neck WTF?). It has a MIG OFR and a 42mm Big Brass Block. It's on my "never get rid of list". The hardware is all black - sorry, can't access a pic.

That's what I've been saying about the Demon in the neck for many years. You have described it to a tee. Exactly what I have experienced, especially how it compares to a '59 and Jazz.

There is a lot of love here for a Pearly in the neck, and I also love the PG, but I love the Demon more!

IMO there aren't many better neck pups for versatility...great tone and response for just about anything you want to play, clean or dirty. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.

I have tried the Demon neck along with a JB bridge and it is a fearsome duet.
Love it. I've realized the A2Pro and the Demon bridge don't balance too well in my Ibby, so I might try something soon.

I'm keeping the magnets as they are. Works just fine for me. The A8 seems like it would be too much for what I want based on what I've read.

A very versatile pickup. I love how it cleans up.

I've liked the Demon since it came out as I've played others' guitars with it installed but I never had one myself until several years back. I love how it works in my Frankenstrat and adding one in the neck has made it really great. In the past I've had a Jazz, Slash neck and various DiMarzios in the neck. The Slash neck is still one of my favorite neck humbuckers. I gotta say, the Demon is right there with it.

Interesting you find that imbalance with the A2Pro. I had Slash neck installed with the Demon and they played really well together.

I like the Demon the best for light gain and high gain leads. I liked the Liquifire more when clean and split.

But the Demon reacts better to raising the PU and poles. Also more note definition with light to medium gain chords.

I have an Iceman with the Demon in the Bridge and the Liquifire in the neck...I think they sound awesome together! And IMO, the Liquifire is one of the best pickups for clean tones. I've never tried the Demon in the neck...should probably look into that!

i wasn't a huge fan of the A8 Demon overall, but it was fantastic when it was split.

I have an Iceman with the Demon in the Bridge and the Liquifire in the neck...I think they sound awesome together! And IMO, the Liquifire is one of the best pickups for clean tones. I've never tried the Demon in the neck...should probably look into that!

Nice. Ya the Liquifire blew my mind in the split department. Lots of clarity. I just didn't like it for an overall neck pickup.

That's where the Demon took over. I want a WLH neck next.

Which Iceman do you have? I have one with a Super D and Air Norton. Killer guitar.

i wasn't a huge fan of the A8 Demon overall, but it was fantastic when it was split.

Im curious what you didn't like about it? I thought it gave it just the right amount of eq change with just the slightest added boost that was perfect for the bridge trebbly bridge postion. What was your gripe? What guitar did you have it in? I have mine in an alder/maple/floyded super strat.
