Another string gauge question

I have one Ibanez guitar for upgrage and i deicided to put it down to D Standard ( and Drop C is important for me with that ) or even in C# Standard ( so i have Drop B also... ) the problem is of choosing the right strings. i use ernie balls in all of my guitars. and the scale of that guitar is 25.5. i have and SG with Distortion on bridge, with 10-48, but when i go down to Drop D it isn't tight enough. so i think that the 10-52 set is the one for 24.5 scale gibson guitar. i need a suggestions which strings to put on that 25.5 scale ibanez guitar for D Standard ( and Drop C ) or in C# Standard ( and Drop B ) ? i have a set of beefy slinkys 11-54 and i wonder if those will be to much for playing in Standard D ? what do you think, would this set be better in C# Standard ?:scratchch

Re: Another string gauge question

For my 25.5" guitar, I use 13-56 in B-standard. When switching tunings a lot, it may not always be perfect, but it's good to find a string set which is somewhere in between. For that range of tunings, I would be comfortable with the 11-54. At the same time, switching from D-standard to drop-B will change the feel of the guitar a lot, and may need some trem adjustment if it's not a fixed bridge. I would put on the 11-54 set and meticulously set the trem, truss, and intonation for C#-standard, so you wouldn't need to do a full setup every time you switch tunings (the imperfections would be minimized for that range of tunings).

Re: Another string gauge question

I have a couple of those, but are reserved for my other guitars in standard E and standard Eb. i think i am gonna go down to C# standard with that Ibanez and use the fresh pack of Beefy Slinkys i have. and there will be emgs installed in that guitar. we'll see.

Re: Another string gauge question

I used 12-56 (Not Even Slinky) on my gibson scale for C Standard. Tension is OK. The guitar really didn't sing at that tuning at all so I brought it up to D Standard/Drop C and its good for Kyuss/QotSA/The Sword/Electric Wizard type stuff.

I'm kind of looking for a Gibson style guitar that will sound great in C standard for that type of music.
