Another Sunday Yard Sale Score, N.G.D.!!!!

LOL, the wife went out yard-sailing this morning & came across this little gem!!!

As best as I can tell it's a 100% original 1982 MIM Stratocaster. Aside from the scratches, 20 year old strings, & the fact that it's so dirty there's a good chance I'll catch hepatitis, it's in pretty great shape!!!

The action is a bit high & there is some minor fret wear but nothing that effects its playability. I actually just spent the past half hour playing it as is & it was fairly enjoyable! I figure a fresh set of strings & even a half-assed setup will benefit it greatly.

Once I get that done I'll get it cleaned up, change out some rusty screws/assorted bits, & have a look under the guard. As I said I think the pickups are original to the guitar (They certainly look like they are!!!) but I've been surprised in the past & whatever they are they sound pretty darn good so they just might stay?

I'm not sure if I'll try to address the scratches or not yet? I suppose I'll should figure out if I'm going to keep it or re-sell it & try to make a few bucks? It would make someone a great project guitar! I'm just not sure if I want to be the one to do it.

In any case not too shabby for $100......

No Mexican Fender Factory in 1982 AFAIK. 1998 MiM strat?

Nice! But that's a 1998 Midnight Wine MIM Strat if I've ever seen one. ;)

I'm partial to the black pickguard look...

Dunlop 65 got it looking nice, but if you really want it to glow try Meguiars #9 then #7...

Good score for $100. Definitely a 1998 though. I like the black pickguards on midnight wine as well

Re: Another Sunday Yard Sale Score, N.G.D.!!!!

I was going to say, MIM Fenders didn't exist in 1982....

Still, $100 is a steal. Yard-sale deals are hard to come by, just like the pawnshop finds of the from before the internet age.

Congrats. Cool guitar, but I think it looks better with a solid black PG though...

Re: Another Sunday Yard Sale Score, N.G.D.!!!!

I see where the mistake was made taking the two first numbers as the date code as some manufacturers do that. For future reference:

M = Mexico
N = Nineties
8= 8
The Rest = Production Number

Seriously! I've never seen anything nearly that cool at a yard sale...

Black pickguard is always the right choice.
