another thread about the 500t

i've got the stock 500t bridge pickup in my gibson faded V
i play through an orange rockerverb50 head with an avatar 2x12 cab (dual v30s, open back)
i don't dial the gain up that high (around 11-12 o'clock, which isn't much considering oranges aren't exactly 'high gain' amps) and i'm wondering if the JB will give me a little more note clarity and possibly a little more sustain? is it going to make the guitar sound a little brighter, or darker? i'm really curious as to how it will effect the sound, but i don't have money to toss around trying stuff out
thanks,
todd

Re: another thread about the 500t

Yes, the JB will give you more clarity. The JB is all about clarity. The JB is going to be brighter than the 500T by a fair margin. Also, the 500T is somewhat tight on the low end compared to the JB. The JB is loose on the bottom especially on a 24.75 scale Mahogany guitar. a JB works best in a strat or a super strat. If you dont mind a looser bottom, it may be for you.

Is there any other qualitys in tone you may be looking for? That might help us clue you in more. Also, you mention you dont have money to throw around, if you live in the US Duncan has a 21 day exchange program. If you dont like what you get, you can take it back to your dealer you bought it from and exchange it or, send it back to Duncan for a similar priced model.

Re: another thread about the 500t

I replaced the 500t in my Les Paul with a JB, and couldn't be happier.
The JB is not quite as thick in the low-mids and bass as the 500t but has more high-mids and less sizzle in the highs.

I don't find the JB loose in the lows at all, I don't know what they are talking about.

In my guitar, the swap from the 500t to the JB was subtle, slightly less output, more singing sustain, and more clarity.

Re: another thread about the 500t

this is exactly what i was hoping for!
i love mids and treble, clarity, sustain, and wouldn't mind less output
and the thing is, i already bought a factory sealed JB off ebay for a really really cheap price, and bought it to replace the terrible pickup in my cheap backup guitar
then i got the idea to put it into my gibson, and put the 500t into my backup, and i think thats what i want to do
