Another trip to Centre City Music today

Wife and I spent the afternoon in San Diego and of course I had to go drool at all the cool **** Saul has.

Saul has ordered 24 custom flamed koa 356's and let me tell you, bar none the best ****ing guitar I have ever played! Holy **** are they nice. Warm and open like a 335, yet singing sustain forever like a Les Paul. I had never tried one before because I figured why try and do both; either get the 335 or the Les Paul. But I was pleasantly surprised. They are a bit pricey for me though, like in the $4000-$5000 range for these custom koa tops.

So what did I get? I took home a 61RI. I played two of them and they were worlds apart in tone, one was very resonant and plugged in was really warm. The other was less resonant and had a lot more treble bite. I bought the warmer one.

Saul also now has the vintage white SG standards that are supposed to be music123 exclusives, he's not sure why they became available but he has a couple from his last shipment. So if you want a white one you can probably save a couple $$ by buying them from Saul.

Tell Saul Jason-the-cop sent you and get some good bro pricing.

Pschhh.... I've got a real one in my closet :) (well, mine's a '62)
As a word of warning, unless they've beefed up the neck joint, be careful.

Not my first 61, and yes, they beefed the necks up sometime in the late 60's - early 70's or so.

Okay, just saw more pics of the 356's, those are sweet! Totally not my style, but amazing none-the-less!

Koa is addicting. Those are nice axes. I'm not sure what I'd do with a giant paddle guitar, but they sure are pretty.

Re: Another trip to Centre City Music today

I NEED ONE OF THOSE KOA GUITARS...
wow, thats defiantly my next purchase:laugh2:

Re: Another trip to Centre City Music today

Congrats on the SG. I don't know who Saul is, but your pics of his store shows some serious gear. The pic of the quilted green LP is unreal.

Re: Another trip to Centre City Music today

Sweet! I'm pretty sure the last Les Paul on the right before the juniors is my Les Paul that is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow!

Saul is the owner/proprietor of the store, Centre City Music in San Diego. It's a small mom & pop store run by him, his elderly mother (she's there every day), and sometimes an assistant. It's a Gibson-only brand store started by Saul's father some 30 years ago and only recently did he add PRS and other brands after Gibson pulled the no advertising on the internet BS.

No VOS. Some 61's, standards (including the white ones), specials, supremes, and maybe historics I can't recall.

Re: Another trip to Centre City Music today

I definately would like to have one of those 356's with a Bigsby. That's just an awesome looking guitar.

Re: Another trip to Centre City Music today
