Another Unknown SD pickup

Hello!

First time post here and hoping to get some help on this. I've had an Epiphone dot that someone put a Seymour Duncan pickup into and it doesn't have a label on it anywhere.

It was a very amateur job because the chrome cover was not properly fastened to the pickup, nor was it soldered on. In fact, it rested so lightly on the pickup that there was a gap between it and the screws. I am guessing the cover was not stock then?

I have no use for the pickup and am looking to sell it, so if it stays unknown it will probably go pretty cheap... any advice is appreciated in terms of selling price.

Here are some pictures attached.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Another Unknown SD pickup

Without the sticker, there's no real way of knowing what model it is. If you have an ohmmeter, you can measure the resistance & that will at least let you know the general type it is; PAF, mid output like Custom series, higher numbers ala JB, etc.

Re: Another Unknown SD pickup

most probably a '59, based on:

-long legs
-braided conductor
-no logo on the coils

if you have a multimeter, see what DC Resistance you get.

Re: Another Unknown SD pickup

59 I think. Its got braided wires long legs, no logo. Measure the DC resistance.

Re: Another Unknown SD pickup

Everyone has said it. We need to know the resistence. Put the leads of a multitester set to ohms on the hot wire (center insulated one) and the braided ground wire.

I, like the others, belive that it probably is a 59. If the meter reads 7.3 - 7.5k ohms, it is probably a 59n. If it reads 8.2 - 8.5k it's a 59b.

As far as price is concerned...look on ebay and see what they're going for. Yours appears to be in excellent condition with plenty of lead wire. New price is $73, used anywhere between $30 and $60.

You guys are great!

I borrowed a really old automotive anylizer with an ohm reader on it and hooked up the pickup and got a reading of about a 7.9 - Does that throw things off? It's manually calibrated so perhaps I should try another reading..

Are you pretty sure it's a '59 with a reading like that?

Thanks again for your assistance, I really appreciate it!

Re: Another Unknown SD pickup

7.9 is just a stone's throw away from the spec sheet value for a '59 - 8.13k.

I'm not sure if the seth lover has the same look as the '59, but its DCR is also very close - 8.1k.

but then again, a DC reading will vary with temperature and humidity too, so yeah. Probably a '59 though.

Re: Another Unknown SD pickup

Cool, just re-calibrated to 0 on the ohm reader and got an 8.0. Thinking it's safe to call it a '59 Bridge model.

Thanks again!
