He hasn't posted much lately, but I blame Hydro since he put a set in his 335 maybe 2 years ago. The curiosity and GAS has been killing me ever since. I don't remember where, but I found a nickel covered set for $130 and couldn't resist picking them up.

I finally installed the WLHs in my 335 last night, and all I can say is WOW. These things are amazing. No verdict on the cleans yet since it was late and my Lead 12 doesn't do clean all that well, but the drive sound is amazing. A bit thicker than the 59s and not as bright, more mids, maybe a bit less bass and a really musical compression when you dig in. I can't wait until after work today when I'll have a chance to properly put them through their paces.
It turns out that WLH set was brand new; I had to remove the plastic from the covers before installing them. Definitely a steal at ~$130.

yep, thats my impression as well. thicker mids, less bass, and not as bright with a nice little bit of compression when you hit it hard.

I've had a chance to play them through a 'real' amp now as well as getting the heights optimally set. If anything they sound even better than last night. The bridge pickup is this great mid 70s Alex Lifeson tone (or maybe slightly bigger sounding), while the neck is big and smooth, almost in Slash territory but not quite so squishy. Clean the neck isn't as sparkly as a '59 or Jazz, but it does a great Led Zep clean tone (I wonder why?) :lol:. The bridge was a bigger surprise; the extra fullness and slightly softer highs make for a very usable bridge clean tone.
After playing the WLH neck, I think the '59N in my Les Paul is gonna have to go. Stupid G.A.S.

I just put a custom with a WLH neck in my SG. Man I love the way it turned out, my guitar technician was not as thrilled as me though. He said WLH neck had to much treble and sh-5 custom to much bass, I DO NOT see it that way. It also has an awesome sounding middle position. I can play everything from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd to Metallica. I can turn the WLH neck on, max out the gain and bass on my amp and really get that Black Sabbath Sweet Leaf sound. The custom and WLH are in there to stay. Also the custom does not at all over power the WLH, it's a good balance.
