Antiquity II Firebird pickups

Hi everybody,
I'm new and I'm from Italy.

I'd like to know something more about the Antiquity II pickups for the Gibson Firebird. I own one from 2012 and the stock ceramic pickups don't sound good at all, I calibrated them well in height but they still sound a bit sterile, cold and anonymous. Too defined and not really round and growly, in my opinion.

They seem impossible to find here in Italy, and they seem to cost WAY much, but I'm liking my new (used) Firebird, so I'd like to try to improve her.

Does anybody have some sample to hear? Any thoughts about them?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Antiquity II Firebird pickups

Your best bet probably is trolling Ebay. While Ants are rare the Lollar Firebird pickups are a regular occurrence. Shipping sounds doable on a pickup size thing.

Or ask Thunderbuckers to make a Firebird pickup set for you (they usually do Thunderbird ones which are same basic principle).

Hi uOpt, thanks for the reply.
I could order them, I suppose, but I'd like to spend not too much money. Shipping fees and import duties/tax are folly (28% ca of the gross total of shipping+items).

I view the Mojotone Johnny Winter, too, but Mojotone pickups are not available in EU (ebay only).

I'd like to hear/read something about the Antiquities, too. They seem to be really nice.

Re: Antiquity II Firebird pickups

i have a set of antiquity II firebird pups and they are great, they sound like the pups out of a 1965 gibson firebird not the modern stuff they put in now.

Welcome to the forum.

I use 'em. I don't have any clips handy, but they were a pleasant surprise to me. Ant IIs are brighter, lower output with a single-coil kind of spank to 'em. Has a Fender-y flavor to them. Much more useful and really added a new weapon to my arsenal. The stock Gibson ones were overwound and just sounded like a thinner weaker Les Paul.

Hi beaubrummels, that's gold.
I'd like to ask you some samples (clean and light od) for the 2 Antiquities, if you can register them.

Re: Antiquity II Firebird pickups

I am thinking that the Antiquities would get your Firebird sounding the way it should. Ive heard Firebirds produced in the last few years, and they don't sound anything like Firebirds I remember. Being that the woods and most of the hardware is the same, I'd have to think it was the pickups too.

I ordered 2 Antiquities for my Firebird, or at least...they should arrive in my local shop, owned by a guitarist i know, in January/February...it seems impossible to find some in Italy, nor they are ever been in the gross warehouse of the Italian distributor... :onder:

285€/both, the best price I've seen around.

Still curious to heard them from you ;)
