It is likely that the outside of the pots are touching the inside of the cavity, but you can test yourself by holding a wire there and seeing if it makes a difference.

Basically, there's no change at all when I touch the knobs, it gets louder when I touch the body paint or have it on my lap and stops entirely when I touch the bridge or strings.
