Antiquity II Tele

Ok I had another thread about tele pickups and alot of people liked different things but many said the Antiquities were the best. So now I'm worried. Are the II's similar to the I's but Alnico V and wax potted?

Re: Antiquity II Tele

I always thought the Ant II's were more of the 60's type of pickup; that brighter, janglier, more "Bakersfield" type of tone.

Re: Antiquity II Tele

I advise being careful on the Alnico II versus Alnico V here. With boutique pickups with tuned magnets A2 and A5 do not show their usual difference from production rabble anymore.

To me, Ant 1s, both Strat and Tele, show all the brilliance and silky highs that I want and that traditionally I can only get from A5. The Surfers in particular sound thin to me compared to the Texas hot that just have what my brain stored as "the" Strat sound.

I think that Seymour did choose the "incorrect" A2 for a reason here. Although the original pickups were A5 you get closer to what you want with A2 in Seymour's recreations.

That doesn't mean anyone can tell you what you'll like better but alas A2 was the original Antiquity choice for a reason.

Interestingly I find the Alnico II Pro's brighter and cleaner sounding then the Antiquities (in a different guitar but the exact same woods and quite similar unplugged). I just guess I want a slightly more powerful cleaner and hi-fi version of my antiquties. I don't need more treble. I'm probably gonna change the neck (the warmoth one is just too thin and bends too much from day to day) and see how that effects tone. I've found the pickup height makes soo much difference that its scary a tiny turn in the screw goes from extremes its hard finding the right balance.
