Antiquity mini buckers and feedback?

I'm looking for some non sqeeling pickups as a replacement for the mini buckers in my SG. The one's that are installed now squeel too much I'm afraid.

I understand that the antiquities are unpotted, so would they have the same issue or are they more squeel proof because of better construction?

What can I expect for the sound?
If I've read correctly a set of these is voiced to sound like the old gibson buckers but I've already got the originals and they sound good! I just can't stand the major feedback sensitivity.

Would potting them kill the sound?

Do I have to get a set or is it possible to get just the bridge bucker and possibly maybe with a black (plastic) cover to keep the original looks?

In all honesty, I have never had a squeel problem with unpotted pickups. I prefer unpotted pups myself and have them in three of my guitars. The added harmonic complexity unpotted pickups provide do it for me. YMMV of course.

While I don't play with mega gain, I do run a few overdrive pedals and have one set to max gain, so it can get up and run!

I assume if you're going the mini-hum route, you are not into high gain, so the unpotted antiquites should pose no problem. So far, every antiquity I have had the pleasure to use has been toneful and quiet. Great pickups imho.

I have a guitar with Antiquity Firebirds.
No problems with sqeeling. Great gutsy sound!

The regular Duncan minihumbuckers should have a similar sound and should be wax potted as well.

The covers are black and made out of some sort plastic. Sounds quite hollow when I tap on it. I opened up one to see what was under but it looked pretty weird. Like the windings were covered in transparent plastic rectangles. There were air gaps between the polepieces. I should have taken a picture of that! :smack:

Sorry forgot to mention, I play super high gain. I'm in a hardcore band using an od to boost my amps gain channel and have no sqeal issues with my potted pickups. I've heard nothing but good things about Antiquity's so I might just as well try them. I could always sell them of course...

You mean the SM series? They are for Firebirds and have a different construction and looks from what I want.

The Antiquity Firebirds sounded positively evil with a VHT Pitbull in high gain mode. Something about the way the lows were super tight, and the Firebird has a ferocious attack to start with. I don't do a lot of high gain currently, but it was unique....

Just one more question, I notice the antiquity's I'm looking at are called 'II'.
Does this mean they have A2 magnets?
