Antiquity quality issues?

A HC review states Seymour had a problem with one of the guys winding the Antiquitys. Any truth to this? What year? Any difference between 90's to 00's versions of single coils and hb's?

Honestly I wouldn't believe too much I read on HC.

MJ winds most if not all of the Antiquities these days. This is her 30th year with Seymour, so her winds are....ehhh pretty solid I'd say.

There were 2 guys who were helping people in the CS at User Group Day, Salvador and Justin. Both seemed very knowledgeable. MJ actually helped me the most though.

Re: Antiquity quality issues?

I have 3 Antiquity Texas Hot pickups in my strat. All three were wound by Mr. Seymour Duncan. They work great. Sound great. Antiquity's are likely the best quality pickups you can buy.

Re: Antiquity quality issues?

I thought Seymour wound the Antiquities himself. If so, I don't see how he could "have a problem with the guy winding it" - unless he was just upset at himself that day, maybe he drank too much the night before.. :biglaugh:

And yeah, they're high quality pups. And double yeah.. people on HC have no idea what they're talking about. Several people on there are complaining about the Antiquity P90s squealing under the smallest amounts of volume and gain. I've NEVER had a problem with this... I play pretty dang loud and with my gain pretty much maxed out and never have had a problem (unless I TRY to create a problem by facing the pups towards the amp a foot away).

Its not just Seymour. MJ and a handful of others do as well.

Amen!

Re: Antiquity quality issues?

I'll put my 2 cents in too. I have antiquitys in two strats and one tele. You would be hard pressed to find a better sounding pickup. Well worth the money. All of mine were wound by Seymour himself.

Re: Antiquity quality issues?

every single one of mine has been wound by mj or seymour

you need to filter the information you get from there.
i think 70% of the information there is just crap.
but most of the texts do incapacitate themselfes, just ignore those.

but sometimes it's useful to have a look.
when i was looking for a bass head, i browsed through the
gallien and krueger reviews and read, that some people reported that
the top i was interested in gets seriously hot or died.
researching a little bit on that topic, i found out that g/k did improvements
on that for the newer backline series.
for me it was good, because i was close to buy that older model which was for sale...

Re: Antiquity quality issues?

One of the things thats so sad about those reviews is that many of them are by people (young, I presume), who openly admit that they went into a store and played the item for a few minutes. The "review" they do on HC is what ordinary people would just relate to their friends. I have to assume that these are folks who have few, or no friends, and just need to be heard.

Its just sad.
