Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

Hunted all over the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for one of these yesterday and everyone is out. More are coming, but not for another MONTH! I guess the first batch sold out extremely fast and there are waiting lists.

I'd never played through a tech 21 product until yesterday when I found a Trademark 120 and plugged in. Sounded/felt really good.

Does anyone here own the Fly Rig 5?

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I have the tech 21 character series vtbass and oxford pedals

they are good but they have their own sound, different than amps. I would not want any more.

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I have had the Flyrig5 on order since May. I tried it out at winter NAMM and it wounded fantastic...and it is tiny!

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

One shop I went to called their sales rep for me and the rep said they would have 3 units in 2 weeks. Guitar Center, and Tech 21 themselves, said the next batch won't be out until end of July/early August. I wonder if that rep was blowing smoke, as I can't see how they would have 3 units sitting somewhere other than on a store's shelf.

It was kind of interesting seeing that there were only like 3 or 4 sold on ebay, and then nothing. I'm assuming those were sales samples that went out around namm and people just cashed them in.

I'm ready!!!

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I ordered mine from Sweetwater, when it said they would be ready my the end of May. Then they said first week in June...now it is late July. I would have just gotten one from Amazon, who actually had some in stock, but Sweetwater assured me it would be soon. So now we wait.

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I know! Sad, but I do look forward to the free candy.

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I wonder how much candy they'll give me for ordering an H9, PP Digital, and a Dunlop volume?

On topic - the fly rig looks pretty awesome. I would love one for sexy simple jam timez

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

fly rig gives me internet gas, but id like to try one first. Let us know how it works out.

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

PUSHED BACK TO SEPTEMBER....AARRGHH!!

Edit: only if you order through Sweetwater. Local dealers may have some!

I'm wondering if Mincer has his in hand?

Nope...I was told late August. I almost canceled my order several times, but I figured Sweetwater does have the free extra year of warranty, and I don't need it for gigs right this second.

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

It sure does look nice, it's almost a pity I don't really need it for anything.

Hmmm... Here's a quote from a Tech 21 sales manager (emphasis mine):

"Our entire first production run was shipped to dealers in June, and apparently they all went to customers who got their orders in and secured a spot toward the front of the line. There are many more customers to whom the FlyRigs have been "pre-sold", so what Sweetwater is saying is that if you first place your order NOW (at the END of the waiting list), you'll see yours in September). We have no way of knowing which dealers ordered more than they would need immediately (leaving them with some surplus stock), but since the bigger mail order houses (like Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, American Musical Supply, etc.) probably GET the most orders from customers, I would guess that everything that's going to them is already spoken for."

I need to try one before I buy, and last time I went hunting for one, I couldn't find one. I guess I'll have to check again around the Minneapolis area.

Obviously there's a demand for this kind of product...

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I remember looking through a Guitar Center brochure and seeing that thing and wondering how well it was going to catch on. Seems like the perfect gigging tool.

Well. Then. I should get mine..soon? I ordered it in May before the initial shipment went out, but there must have been a lot of them pre-sold. I was told mine would be in the initial shipment, but apparently not. So I guess I am at the front of the line now.

Re: Anxiously awaiting the Fly Rig 5

I'm trying to understand the excitement here. Why not just grab a carbon copy (or other available delay) and a used sansamp or something?

Yep, plus a clean boost and a "Marshall type " OD and a reverb pedal(s), hence the "5". I think the FlyRig5 is a great combination of effects that would suit my needs very well. Just pre-ordered one from Sweetwater this evening! Anticipation!!!
