any Acoustic recommendations

I've got two acoustics... An old 76 Takamine that my dad bought back in the day... It's got a funky adjustable bridge, and a huge (repaired) crack on the bottom. It's not resonant at all and doesn't sound too good... plus it's got a really thin, narrow, V shaped neck (In other words I HATE THE NECK)

The other one is a newer Takamine Jasmine, that's a bit thin for my taste, but plays nice.

I figure it's time to get a really good acoustic. Every acoustic I've played at guitar stores has been different, even among similar models... the only one I really liked was a high dollar takamine. Also I kind of liked one of those metal bodied martins. it lacked something though.

My price range, however, is under $400. in general, what will give me a buttery feel, warm, articulate tone, preferably around 25" scale, with a fairly wide, non v shaped neck.

Any recommendations? No preference on body style etc.

Those Takamine's are really nice guitars to play . . . I was eyeing one a couple of years ago, and everything about it felt right but it sold before i could get ahold of it . . .

If you're not feelin' the cello suggestion, a Seagull may fit u'r bill real nice. Warm, under 4 bills, just under a 25 in scale, wide neck, non V. DO IT!!!

I have one of these and i am extremly impressed. it has a nice full sound to it and a nice D shaped neck. I see that now they are 179.99,but i got mine for 99.99 awhile back. Read the reviews they are pretty informative. Might even see mine,im listed as the Guitarist for Last Chance.

The bad news is while i love the guitar acoustically the electrics kinda sucked. There was a loose connection somewhere, although the sound itself is very good. It is a Fishman Classic 4 preamp.

Might I suggest a cello?
HA!!! I always wanted a cello actually...

As for the seagull Ill look around. Made by the godin people from what I remember?

I've been thinking about some Waldens at a local guitar store that played nicely, but they sounded a bit too rounded, not open enough for me.

Yeah, I've played some good takamines, but they seem to be very hit or miss... same with ovation(owned by the same people I believe

I really like the Taylor Big Baby. It is gotten for $3xx and plays awesome! The only problem is its 7/8 scale or whatever they call it. Take a look at it!

Re: any Acoustic recommendations

Yamaha makes really good acoustics for the money. You could get a nice one for that price....

Can't go wrong with a taylor (I'm just in love with mine) but they tend to be pricier if you're not looking into the babies...

Being from Quebec I can't say enough good things about seagulls too....;)

Re: any Acoustic recommendations

ovations?

how much is the starting price range for ovations in the US? when my pal was shopping for an acoustic, i doodled around with this ovation which cost around 500 euros, maybe its around 400 - 500 USD there? cos the guitars are cheaper there. IMHO it has more similiarities to an electric than other acoustics, that why i like it.

+1
I was in the same search you where. I never even heard of Seagull much rather played one but one day i walked into a music store and picked one up. They have a really great sound and don't kill the budget. I got mine on ebay and it usually sells for close to a thousand but i got it for $350 used.

They have really nice sized necks too. I have big hands and i hated small necks. I should get payed for this endorsement, haha. Good Luck

You can get an Applause (Ovation's epiphone type line) really cheap over here. I always thought the true Ovations were all over $500, but I may just not have seen one of the cheaper ones. I know Ovation makes a nice guitar, though.

I don't think you could go wrong with Seagull (yes, they are from the same company as Godin). One of the guys - I can't remember who - got one at UGD. Everyone was raving over it.

I'd sell you my Fender really cheap, but you said "really good acoustic."
