Any Behringer V-Amp users?

Hey guys.

I'm looking at amp modellers at the minute to help me with recording onto my PC at home, and I found a website that sells both the Standard Behringer V-Amp and the rack mountable V-Amp Pro for a decent price.

I was just wondering if anyone here uses either of these units, or could tell me any Pros/Cons of choosing 1 over the other.

Thanx for any help.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

I love mine, doesn't sound as good as a real tube amp, but oh well. Check out my clips in the TipsnClips room, everything was done with my DD for dist (besides the newest shred clip, that was the EMGHZ neck) and 59 for cleans.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

I use a vamp2, my friend uses the vamp pro.

The benefits of the vamp2 over the vamp pro are that the vamp2 comes with the 2 button footswitch in the package. Also you can see the tuner at your feet and dont need to turn at a wierd angle and crane your neck if your rack is on the ground to see the tuner.

The vamp pro has more MIDI channels which is benefitial if you are using multiple units using MIDI and want to combine them into a single midi board for patch switching rack-wide.
Also the vamp pro has XLR outputs, where as the vamp2 does not.

Points of note:
1. Do not get a v-amp, get a v-amp2, make sure it is the TWO.
2. Make sure that it has the latest firmware update which fixes many flaws in the operation of the vamp2/pro (but not all flaws).
3. It sounds alrite, you can get some pretty decent tones with one, it just takes some fidiling.
4. My v-amp2 decides to forget ALL my patches on a regular basis (usually before a huge show :( ). Someone said it's from knocking it around.
5. With a few other people that have v-amp2's their tuners have gone out, so now the tuner tunes the note flat. So now the tuner on there's is unusable. (mine is perfectly fine, I check it against my tuning fork, boss tu-2 and my handheld guitar tuner regularly.)
6. If you have the money, dont get a vamp2. They are alrite, but are no substitute for a real good tube amp. If its only for recording purposes at home, Its fine, I've done a few myself. Although I can't find a way to upload any at the moment.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

Your patch problem is a good sign of a dying/dead battery inside.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

There's a small lithium (camera type) battery inside the unit itself, so when the unit is unplugged the presets stay intact. As it dies, the presets get lost, and it can sound weaker.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

Thanx for the posts guys.

I don't plan on having a V-Amp2/Pro instead of a valve amp, I'd just like to have 1 for quieter recording at home. I can only record at home now when the house is empty so I can crank my JCM800 or my Marsall JTM60 to get a decent tone. That's why I thought of getting a modeller so I can atleast do some recording while other people are still in the house :)

Is there any more Pros/Cons of getting either the V-Amp2 or the V-amp Pro over the other?

Thanx again for the help :)

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

If it's for practice/recording only, get the Vamp2. If you're going to be gigging/using it for an effects processor in a rack rig, get the pro.

Thanx for the post :)

I'll have a think about if Iw ant to use the unit live or not, and then make my decision then :)

Thanx for the info guys.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

I just broke the clip that holds the battery in. Is there a fix for this? V-Amp Pro rackmount unit. Thanks.

My thought is to contact Behringer and see if they have any laying around. Other than salvaging a broken one you find, that might be your only choice.

Masking tape?
Duck tape leaves too much residue
Low tack blue painter's tape

Yeah

Will it run on a wall wart?

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

It probably needs a very delicate soldering job. People come into my work with the same problem in their keyless entry fobs all the time. If it's what I think, nothing needs replaced, it's just the nature of PCB battery clips.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

Oh wait
How bout a picture
That may be much simpler that I thought
I was thinking battery door

Painters tape! And Craigs List/Offer Up/Facebook Marketplace to find a non-working one really cheap to harvest for parts.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

I had the preamp version.
The power button fell inside after a short time.
No screws/brackets/clips, no way to fix it.
Was glued from the inside.
Couldn't get rid of it fast enough.

Re: Any Behringer V-Amp users?

Friend of mine borrowed me his. It sounds awful, wouldn't bother. Get a used Yamaha THR or Boss Katana if you want something quiet and for quick recording. Or just play through an audio interface and use free amp modelling plugins on your PC.

This must be all-time record of necrothreading, with a 15-year old thread coming back from the dead!

The fact that you weren't able to get a sound you could like, it doesn't make it sound "awful".

I, for one, have made well over a a thousand live gigs and a couple dozen recording projects with one, being the last one in March, made with a Beatles Tribute project band of my neck of woods.

haha...this is true!! 15 years! I did just pick up a little Vox Adio Gt that I like, but the delays in this V-amp are actually pretty cool. Here's a pic of the break. It's plastic and the battery has kind of a spring action to it so I'm not sure tape will work. Thanks.0.jpg
