Any Celestion G12H-75 Creamback users?

Hey guys.

I've always liked the sound of a 4x12 with 2x V30s and 2x G12H30s but as I use a 2x12 I've never been able to go with V30/G12H30 in my cab as it doesn't have enough power handling for my Splawn and Marshall 100w heads.

I just wondered if anyone has tried the G12H-75 Creamback at all? It's meant to be in the ballpark of a G12H30 tonally but with 75w power handling.

Thanks.

Craig

Yeah, both of the Creambacks are awesome speakers. I search for new/used ones on Craigslist all the time, hoping to grab a 65 or 75 for $100. Then, I can recoup 2/3's by selling a G75 or V30.

There's a good youtube clip where they go back and forth between the two. The 65 sounds like a Greenback, and the 75 is more like an H30. I'm not sure which one I like better because I like both of those tones. I'm thinking a mixed Creamback cab would be ideal for most guitarists who value great tone.

In my 100W JCM800 212 combo, I have a Creamback 65 on the right, and a V30 on the left, but eventually I'll replace the V30 with a CB75. Besides using the JCM800 as an amp, I also use it at home as a cab with my various heads.

Also, the V30 is rated at 60W and the H30's may be 30W, but it's a pretty rugged speaker. I've seen a lot of 100W/212 rigs with those speakers and they fare just fine as long as you don't go full blast.

+1

I use a 100W Marshall w/ a 2x12 loaded with Eminence Wizards all the time, and I used H30s before that. I'd be worried about going deaf before blowing speakers with that rig.

Both of the creambacks sound like their low watt grandparents with a bit more low end, and a bit less toppy. The 65 seems to have a bit less high midrange than low wattage G12ms, but not in a bad anemic sort of way like a certain g12m clone I own. The CB65 definitely sits inbetween a m25 and a old M65 tonally.

If you like your existing H30s, and I am assuming they are lead cone versions, then you should love the Creamback version.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've bought a G12H-75 to go alongside the V30 in my oversized 2x12, so I'll have to see how I get on :D

I definitely want to hear what you think. Planning to do something similar myself. Also, a demo would be killer.

Any review? :)

Sorry, I'd completely forgotten about this!

I've gigged this cab a bit now and I'm definitely happier with it than just with V30s. Bit less spikier in the mids than before but still cuts through a band. It's bright but not overly so and suits my Splawn Quickrod and SLO Clone really well.
