Any Dean Cadillac lover?

Re: Czech Deans

Re: Czech Deans

Czech made Deans are 1998 to 2000 made and were ghost built by an old company that had made cellos and violins for decades. Those guitars can be every bit as good as any USA made guitar. The wood and build were excellant.

Good to know.
Never played USA Caddie, worth the money?

Aceman at the Dean Owners Jam in 2013. That is a 2003 Dean Open House Cadillac limited edition of 24 I believe. :headbang:

Some other guy that pops up around here named Steve Dallas LOVES some Dean Caddys. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

That was really cool of you to mention Ace, but Steve Dallas is kind of a freak...

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

Here is a pic of the Steve Dallas collection. From what he has told his roadie (me) the black Caddy X is a project. The rest are his regular use ones.

They just couldn't quite get the colors/bursts right. Some were OK. Some were gawd awful.

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

Hava an 1980 Caddie with a '59 set. Awesome guitar, sustains for days (well, bridge and tailpiece are now a Tonepros set, and got it a TUSQ nut. Stock was already good, though).

Reissue?
Well with a set of 59s you got there what do you usually play?
I went through a couple of PU changes; Stock to JB set and now 57classic&Plus.
Playing Jazz and blues too with a Bigsby and stoner rock is main dish.
For dessert I get to have those frowning faces of metal heads for free ;)

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

I play anything from Death Metal to New Age stuff. I usually do it with all my guitars (the roster has 11, and all have different Duncans in, the exception being a 2010 LP Trad).

Mine doesn't neck dive, BTW.

Alright. But hang on. Do you mean no neck dive with a silky polyester strap buckle all the way to the end?
Mine neither but with cotton strap I like

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

I've played a couple of USA Deans back in the day and loved them...fantastic necks and tone. Just missed a banana yellow Cadillac at an auction in the early '90s...still bummed about that one.

Never played an import Dean.

As for Korean-made, I have several Ibanez MIK guitars, and they are very good, indeed.

Out of curiosity what’s the Dean’s trademark neck shape? The V? Is it soft and slimtapered?

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

Do not believe they have a trademark on any particular shape. I have Deans, import and US made with various shapes. Usually an import with a V cut is part of a custom limited run. They stick to a medium C shape for the most part on standard issue runs across the models it seems. That has been my experience. I have custom run Korean made Dean ML from 2004 that has a mild V to it. I like that in a guitar so that was an added feature to me.

My Dime MLs both the DFH and Tribute were soft Vs. The Razorbacks were V and my MAB1 a C. I think they produce a little of everything.

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

I though Steve Dallas had more guitars than that; specifically some LP's? However, that is a nice assortment of import Cadillac's.

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

Is it Dean that "dimples" the back of some of their necks?

The ones I played are memorable because they rolled in the fingerboard edges in an exagerated way. Very comfortable. My Music Man Sabres do this, but not to the extent of the Deans of that era.

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

That is the new guitars Dean Z is selling. He has no part of current dean production nor own any interest in the brand name that I know of. He sold it in the mid '80's and then was an employee of the current brand owner. That is as far as I know and I have no inside info nor do I work for Dean.

Re: Any Dean Cadillac lover?

I have 4 Dean USA Hardtail's and one Korean Hardtail. For the most part, my Dean's have a "C" profile of varying thickness. I have an 02', 03' and 04', and the neck size is amazingly consistent. My remaining Hardtail is an 07' I believe.... it's hard to tell because the solid blue color and the poly finish pooled inside the stamp. It has a neck that is noticeably larger..... but still "C" shaped. My 03', which is a collectors edition is supposed to have a soft "V" profile, but it has to be very soft because I really can't tell a whole lot of difference.

My import Hardtail is a solid medium C, in my opinion.
