Any EHX Soul Food Users?

Hi guys.

I'm considering picking up a Soul Food relatively cheaply to play around with and for a different flavour of boost.

Just wondered what peoples impressions of them were etc.

Thanks.

I bought one a gew months ago and love it. Great dirt pedal.

I had one for a while but ended up selling it to my brother. It was an awesome pedal, but I preferred the Archer that I eventually replaced it with.

For the price, you really can't beat it.

I've got one somewhere, but I can't say I've ever really taken to it. It has a quality about it that I can't quite put my finger on, but the nearest analogy I can come up with is "It's like using sweetener in your coffee, instead of sugar - it leaves an unpleasant aftertaste".

I run it into a swart ast 20watt combo amp with 12" speaker and 6v6 tubes , bought it to use as a clean boost and cranked all the way it doesn't add enough grit for me.

I had a great experience with that pedal when I bought it. Squier Strat with Duncan Designed rails into a Peavey Bandit (current generation). It was very organic, transparent, and touch responsive.

I use it through a small hybrid anp into a 2×12 with Vintage 30s. One Strat has SSL-1s and the other a strat sized P90 type coil and a pair of Benson single coils. I run it with low dirt to complement the amps gain. I love it. More than my TS Mini, TS9 or modded BD-2.

It doesn't have a lot of gain but it makes a good clean boost. Where it really shines though is with a slightly dirty amp. Turn on your crunch channel and pop the soul food. It also is good for gain stacking with other pedals.

As already mentioned, great as a clean boost. I used to use one as a boost and one for dirt. I've replaced the "dirt" one with a Plimsoul and now I just run the distortion from my new amp I just built. But I still use the clean boost for leads.

Great pedal IMO.
