Any fans of the Jimmy Page wiring?

Re: Any fans of the Jimmy Page wiring?

I like it, but probably like others who have it, I don't use the majority of the sounds. There are some worthwhile ones though. I like that you can boost phase by linking the PU's in series. Series itself (without using phase) is usable when the neck PU is n coil split, gives a boost for certain solos. Also gives you the option of which bridge coil is on during coil split, so you can pair the bridge screw to the neck slug (in the middle position) and make a 'virtual' humbucker. For some players it's worth having, for most it's not.

There are other, simpler ways to get a variety of tones, and the JP is just one of your options.

Re: Any fans of the Jimmy Page wiring?

I ran JP wiring for a couple years in an SG. Very useful, particularly if playing in a variety of environments where having a few options on board to troubleshoot tone was the perfect solution. Also enabled me to play every song of a setlist being a cover from different styles of music with just one guitar all night.

I tended to keep the neck in parallel most all the time. Occasionally split the bridge with the neck in parallel for clean rhythm. Pickups in series was always out of phase for me. At equal volume was Stratty, and by rolling one or the other volume it brought back just the right amount of girth and tone. In series by itself was too thick and ugly and unusable.

I used the full 6-switch version where coil splits were separate from the coil parallel switches.
