any good feedback on Avatar cabs?

Re: any good feedback on Avatar cabs?

Whoa..hey buddy, lets not get carried away. I understand you love your Avatar cabinet, and thats cool..The Avatar cabinet is a solid budget cabinet, but a Bogner or Cornford , probably an Orange too, Engl and maybe Dr .Z ,would blow it to smithereens.

I wouldn't call it a "budget" cabinet. Affordable yes. "Budget" No. Avatar didn't

skimp on anything. All of there cabs are made of Voidless Baltic Birch, the

Traditional Line is 13 Ply, the Vintage Line, and Contemporary are even

thicker yet. Avatar also buys Celestions in Massive Quantities which helps

keep their prices affordable. Hey....if you want to pay double/triple the price

for the Company Logo thats cool too.....have at it.

I'm just curious though.......have you ever played an Avatar Cab?

Re: any good feedback on Avatar cabs?

I have had an Avatar Vintage 2x12 for 5 or6 years now. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. I haven't heard any cab sound any better. I've got it filled with a Celestion G12K and an Eminence Swamp Thang. It sounds massive, I can get pristine clean tones, I can get heavy metal, hard rock, crunch, you name it. The cab is oversized so I can run it closed back and get great bass response.

Re: any good feedback on Avatar cabs?

I have a 2x12 traditional cab that has been treating me well for about 2 years now. The build quality is excellent. The work is really clean (no glue overspray inside). I am sure that the materials are, no doubt, sourced from the same suppliers as the "big" boys.
They use a direct marketing business model similar to carvin's.
Mesa, marshall, bogner, etc. have to sell through wholesalers and retailers which HAS to raise the price. Everybody needs their cut, which gets passed on to the end buyer.
Technically, the wholsaler purchases it from the manufacturer. The retailer purchases it from the wholesaler. You the buy it from the retailer.

How much do you think the wholesaler buys that mesa cabinet for? Probably about the same as you would pay for an avatar.

I find it funny when some individuals get so hung up on a name and a high price that it clouds their understanding of the facts.

No brainer.

I've really only heard good things so I might try to get one of the vintage 212s. Now to decide on some speakers...:scratchch

Eminence is pretty cheap and they have a ton of choices.
