Any good "sleeper" acoustics out there?

Re: Any good "sleeper" acoustics out there?

Takamine.

+1 the Takamine's.
I'm still *very* tempted by their jumbo cutaways, 6 and 12 string.
That said, I'd put my Cort... er, Carvin 980 up against anything under 2k.

I've really liked the Takamines I've played. I'd also like to get a matching pair of the jumbos in 6 and 12 some day, they play and sound great. Then again, I've also been impressed with Seagulls, and the budget Martins and Taylors. (The Martin that is a real wood guitar, not the composite one)

I'll second Alvarez. I don't own one, but my best buddy has one that is way out of the league of its price tag.

Seagulls are nice guitars... after a lot of searching for a nice $1500-ish guitar and not finding anything that blew me away it was coming down to a 000 size Seagull or the Alverez rosewood dreadnaught for about half of what I was looking to spend.
.

Seagulls are great! Cheap, no-frills, but they sound awesome. Garrison makes nice guitars too. The Epi Masterbuilts can still be expensive, though.
Main thing with cheaper acoustics is try to find a solid top.
