Any love for Epiphone Wildkat?

Re: Any love for Epiphone Wildkat?

I've never played one but it's probably the coolest model (on paper) that Epiphone makes.

Mine is white with gold hardware. It sounds and plays awesome. Normally, I really dislike gold hardware but for this one, I'll deal with it.

I don't know what the deal is with a custom shop logo as Epi does not have a custom shop. Maybe they just cherry pick the better ones and slap a logo on it?

Man, this one is GORGEOUS! It just scream class in yer face! Congrats!

On paper being the key words. I guess for some people it works though. I have to admit, I got mine simply based on that, and on the looks. Mine was tiger colored.

FTR, I have never seen a guitar that feedbacks so much.

Guys, what do you think about the wiring? I mean, do you use that "both p'ups on" volume at all?

I'm all ears!

Re: Any love for Epiphone Wildkat?

In all honesty, I thinks that is it's major drawback. Most people don't like to fuss with odd wiring and knob placement, including me.

Unless they are used to playing a Gretsch.

I leave both pickups on with the tone rolled back to take the edge off and use the neck pickup most of the time.

I would like it much better it if it had conventional wiring and knobs.

I thought about it, but I will want to sell the guitar someday.

It's nice to hear the sincere opinion of somebody who actually own such an instrument! :)

If it was mine, I'll rewire it completely, leaving only one volume and one tone. I think that this wiring's killing the tone. I'll talk to the guy to see if he's game or not.

Re: Any love for Epiphone Wildkat?

I wired mine so that I have master tone and indipendent volumes for each pickup. The master volume is a volume control for the Power Bridge system.

Re: Any love for Epiphone Wildkat?

Phil, that's a beautiful guitar.

I personally wouldn't sell it. I'd just install some plastic covered P90's to take care of the feedback.

FWIW, my Sheraton goes into feedback much more easily than my Alleykat.

What is the "Power Bridge system"?

Care to explain, please Benjy?

Edit: never mind, I've read the older post... sorry!

The epi is long gone. I just didn't connect with it, and after a few months I didn't play it anymore. Not caus of the feedback, but everything about the guitar.

I have seen some people rock on them though...
