Any love for the 1/4 Pounde for Tele in here ?

I can get a very cheap Squire Tele, and started to play with the idea of converting it to an Esquier with a HOT pick up.

Does anyone here use/like the 1/4 Pounder's in their Teles ?

Any love for the 1/4 Pounde for Tele in here ?

I run one in my tele build. I see it more along the lines of having a P90ish tone. It's fat without being overly hot. I really like the pickup.

I have one in the mid position and really like it. It balances well with the high output Invader humbucker at the bridge.

Glad I could help.

I strongly recommend getting the tapped version, especially for an Esquire. The tap basically brings it down to "normal" Tele level.

I had one in an old parts tele and then swapped it for a Muy Grande. Now I have a lil 59 in it. I didn't hate the quarter pound, I just didn't love it.

I had one in my Tele. I didn't like it much. Too muddy. I had the tapped version of it, so I was hoping that it would sound good tapped.

But.. and this is just me... I've been really loving the sounds of Alnico 2 magnets lately. I replaced the 1/4 pounders with an an2p and a Seth Lover in the neck (full humbucker). Much better for me.


I can see where some guys would really love that 1/4 pounder sound. And the neck did sound like a p90. Maybe I just don't like the sounds of a p90 in a tele. lol

I built this "Esquire" just so I'd have a guitar with a Quarter Pound. It's the tapped version, and the "tone" knob is set up as a spin-a-split. Yes, the full coil can be muddy, but it makes a great roar that works in a three-piece band. The tap doesn't really give an authentic Tele twang, but it's close enough.

Yes, this is the guitar I recently had up for sale, but I've changed my mind. The offers I got weren't worth the heartache of letting it go.

Rich_s, that is a great looking guitar and kudos for going with a tapped coil and push-pull switch. You've got some tonal flexibility with a very classically clean look.

I liked in the middle and neck positions in a strat but can't comment on it in a bridge setting. As others have said I wouldn't expect it to make a tele sounding as twangy but it wouldn't make it sound like an SG either.

I have a Tele with S/S/H pickups and I have the QP at the bridge and middle positions. I also have a GFS Bigmouth at the neck position which is a perfect match for the QP. It does really well with that half clean loud as hell rock sound like AC/DC, Georgia Satellites or Sun Volt.. The only problem I have had with the QP is finding a pot value I like for the volume. 250K pots are too dark and 500K pots are a bit too bright.
