Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

I used to have a Rectoverb several years ago and liked the tone but sold it for a dumb reason.

I may want one again as a backup to my Dual Rec. I remember liking the cleans and overdrives a lot... can they do heavy stuff fairly well too?

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

I just grabbed a used series 1 rectoverb this week... I had to change the tubes. If you give me a few days I'll be able to get back to you with more details. So far I can say this: lots of gain. Cool cleans, reverb's ok.

More later, this was all done at very low volume yesterday night after I received my new tubes.

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

My main stage amp has been the 50 watt Solo Rectoverb for about 10 years now. We play classic rock, but I play it with a much heavier Recto tone. It will do Fender clean, Marshall crunch or Recto Metal all with the flip of a few switches. You would be very happy with this in a metal band. The only heavier tone I like as well is an Engl. I have the 1-12 combo, and I don't miss a 4-12 cab. It's got a monster tone. In the studio I match it with cabs for the tone I want, and it plays well with Greenbacks, EVM's and G12 75's.

That's good to know... thanks for your input, guys.

When I get the spare cash (could be a while) I may have to drop for one of these as a backup amp.

Anyone else?

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

unless you are touring, you may want to consider as a backup amp a magnum 44 pedal

they are small and economical, and it beats unloading and watching/securitying the backup amp at a bar with potential lowlife

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

Nope, I got a MK-5 head with a 2-12 recto cab!

Haha.

No. :D

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

As a backup to my Rectoverb, I carry a Tech21 US Steel
pedal in my gig bag. Hopefully I'll never have to use it, but it's small and light and would do in a pinch.

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

In all seriousness I've tried using pedal-type devices or modelers as back up amps and I've never been able to make them work for me. They always leave me feeling frustrated.

Out of the 100's of gigs I've played in my life I've needed a backup amp due to a main amp breakdown maybe 2-3 times, and a small tube combo or a 2nd head hidden away in the back of the van always delivers.

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

Still the absolute worst Rectifiers made in my opinion. I'd rather have a pre-2010 3ch Dual/Triple. If you have to do it, get the Rectoverb, but I'd honestly save a bit more and get a Tremoverb, 2ch Dual/Triple, post-2010 3ch Dual/Triple, or Roadster.

If your goal is to save money and retain the Recto vibe then a Single will work but if your goal is Recto tone or really any tone that isn't abrasively buzzy in the top end and insanely stiff feeling then I'd go elsewhere.

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

Not too sure about the Rectoverb you're asking about , but the older Tremoverbs sounds GODLY !

Re: Any Mesa Single Rectifier or Rectoverb users?

Tremoverb... post-2010 3ch Dual

Owned the former, sold it for the latter. I wouldn't turn down a Tremoverb again, but I found my 3rd Gen Dual to be less noisy, a little more versatile, better effects loop, just a little more refined all around. The Tremoverb was a very cool amp though, super crunchy and very organic sounding.

I honestly don't remember my old Rectoverb sounding like that, but then again it's been 7-odd years since I've had it and my tastes have changed. I do remember it feeling stiff in a certain mode but I didn't use that mode anyways.

My current amp is a 3-channel amp that will handle metal. I'd like a 2-channel amp that does rock, although in a similar vein, tonally. Maybe I should go for a 2-channel original Dual (which is basically what the Tremoverb was, but without tremolo and reverb)?

The modern mode, yeah - super stiff, but the inability to select a tube rectifier and the lack of bold/spongy switch on the single really kill it for me. The 2ch Duals are insane amps though, really hard to go wrong with those and they go really cheap used for the amount of amp you get.
