I don't know much about all his guitars but if you listen to track one on "Imaginary Day", the nylon string that comes in at the start is a custom Manzer fretless, it has that kind of tone.
From the clips I've seen/heard of people playing the Vigier, I was surprised by how close it sounded to a fretted guitar. Probably to do with technique; I'm sure you could get it to sound "doinky" (good name for it
) if you aimed at doing so.
