Any other rack gear users here?

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

Been playing thru this for years, absolutely love it(still)!!!
Sorry 'bout the old crappy pic...

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

-You should have seen Living Colour back in the day. When I saw them for the 'stain' tour, Vernon Reid had two racks at least 6 feet high and another about four feet high, and a pedalboard so large that it had two 'wings' off to the side.

yeah, looked like friggin NASA! I saw em in a club supporting the first CD. Was a few months before they came back opening for the stones.. Loudest show I ever saw too

I have a rockman chorus rack unit that I need to get a rack for

Re: Any other rack gear users here?

What I'd really like to find/have is some sort of distributor for the guitar that would split out the signal to various Inputs, similar to what an A/V Distribution Amp does for multi-display setups.

Right now I just run into a Morley ABY (set to A+B), with one line running to the ADA Input and the other running to the 1101 Input. To use the Bass POD I have to use a separate cable, and if I want to swap either of the Legends into the chain I have to swap cables from another Input.

I'm thinking a device that has one Master input and maybe 7-10 Outputs, and each Output of that would then go to the Inputs of the various rack gear (and maybe one straight out to my head/cab setup), and I simply use the mixer channel volumes to dial in whichever unit I want to use.

That'd be nice to have, but then I'm probably the only one who uses multiple preamps

Nope, been doing that since the 90's and I love it. I use an old Upton Technologies Pedal Pusher, 1 in/8 outs. Then I use loopers and other mixing capabilities in the rack gear's loops to bring about 6 preamps in and out and blend up to 3 at a time. I don't use the loops as "loops" because the have buffers that mess with the tone. That's why each preamp is fed directly and the loops are only used as "returns". For that much gear, my signal paths are pretty short on a per-patch basis. I just have a lot of combinations I can create. Other gear is looped, rather than selecting the "bypass" on the unit itself.

Did anyone ever try to dual-purpose a 2:50 or 2:90 both as guitar amp and for general stereo (singing, keyboards, maybe even bass)?

I need a power amp anyway and I'm thinking of just using of of those. I can't imagine that the frequency response of those Mesas is all that crazy and non-flat but does anybody know?

Current setup (pic from tonight):

I used to have my 2101 in there for backup and still might put it back in there for an upcoming gig, but I'll be selling it.

I go from the 1101 to my Yorkville NX25P powered speaker for practice and as a monitor for gigs. From the 1101 to our main mix via XLR for gigs.

Signal:
Guitar > orange box > 1101 > NX25P

The orange pedal is simply a kill switch, so I can plug in guitars without making the band/audience painfully aware. It also has a momentary switch (red) if I want to abruptly stop then start the signal.

The Pickup Booster will go into the line-up, but I'm still finding a place for it with the guitars and patches I have.

The pedal that's taped up in green painter's tape (the everything tape, btw) is something I made back in the late-90's. The original version was based on the sound from my 2101's Saturated Tube distortion. It was a vain attempt using solid-state. However, there is something about it that is organic. It's not as harmonically pleasing as the 2101's tube distortion - it's nastier, in a good way. This is the 2nd iteration. It's very hard to dial in (thus the tape), since it has 2 gain stages that vary attack and saturation drastically, and a 7-band EQ, along with a couple of switches for flavouring the sound and a presence control. I use it in the loop for some patches. The 1101 is excellent at being transparent, depending on how you setup the patch. For the patches I use the "amp" section is set to Direct. Then I can specify the cab to use, which greatly influences the sound (no duh). I tried running my guitar directly into the pedal and then into the front of the 1101 with the same setup and it was frighteningly similar. The 1101's front-end is a little better than my pedal, so it's more consistent with different guitars this way. At least for my purposes I find that behaviour better.

With the 1101 I can set my monitor (1/4" out) volume separate from the XLR volume, so it makes setup easy.

All of this sits in my SKB PS-100. There's a top cover, btw. It's not water tight or anything, but it protects well and keeps rain and snow off the gear.

I LOVE this setup. I drag this between home and practice every week. It's lighter than most gig-able amps, and just as easy to setup: plug power in, plug guitar in, plug speaker cable in, rock out!

At some point I'll get a 2nd 1101 that I can have at home and leave this setup at the practice space.

The Strategy 500 I had prior to my 2:Ninety could handle bass really well. However, it did have much larger headroom, larger power supply, and larger output transformers than the 2:Ninety. It also had extended frequency response from the 6550s and weighed about as much as a small dump truck.

Realistically, the 2:Ninety could handle bass or keyboards at low volume, but to really hit low frequencies with any authority, a dedicated PA amp would be a better choice.
