Any recommendations for a Twin Channel Overdrive Distortion... but one that does...

Hi,

I play with quite a nice set up, Stunning Amps, Great Guitars, Quality Cables and Boutique Effects...

My Amp always runs clean and I need a versatile pedal that will provide me with both an Overdrive AND a Distortion. For versatility etc, I need a pedal that will change from one channel to the other and not layer them.

At the moment, I'm using the TC Electronic NovaDrive that does just that and as great as the TC is, with it's analogue circuit and digital user face, true bypass... it is perfect... but! I feel that I need more from the Distortion side.

I play in a few bands, some professionally and it would be nice to go from Clean - O/D - Dist - Clean without tap-dancing.

Any recommendations or youtube links would be great appreciated!

Regards

Forget YOUTUBE. Just get on the list for an Analogman King of Tone. IMO, it's the ultimate overdrive/distortion pedal and I thank TGWIF for talking me into getting one every time I mention the KoT. It's the best.

If you can do without two pedals in one box, the Wampler Euphoria is my next favorite. Jeff Beck is using one...and a Klon.

Love the Wampler too!

Thanks man! I'll get looking!

Besides the year and a half wait for a KOT, I don't think you'll dig it if you want more out of the distortion from your Nova Drive. VFE will be able to do what you want, and they have a whole pedal customizer process where you can pick from any of their production pedals and put them in a dual pedal box, along with your choice of finish, knobs, switch covers, and more. All of this can be done right from the website. The prices are pretty reasonable too, considering what you get.

You could also look into JHS, they build a few dual pedals, but the options aren't there compared to VFE.

I am actually on the KoT waiting list... I was hoping that with the high gain mod's and maybe the DiP switch..... I know it doesn't quite switch as I would like, but Mike reckons that I'll be able to hit both switches at the same time...

Who is VFE?

Seymour Duncan Classic Twin Tube, now discontinued, but I see both new and used ones on ebay. Great for what you're after. The other method I use is a TS-9 (for OD) and a Boss FBM-1 (Fender Bassman- for more distortion) driving the front end of a clean Fender amp.

Yes, you can hit both switches at the same time, it's a fairly small pedal. And no, even with the high gain mods and setting one side to the distortion mode, it's still not a distortion. It's just a higher gain overdrive (still fairly low gain when compared to some of the overdrives on the market)

Here you go.

I'd look into their Alpha Dog for the distortion - it's a really nice Rat clone with tons of options. The Pale Horse and The Scream are both great overdrives.

I've not played one, so I can't speak to how well it will fit what you are looking for, but the Wampler Hot Wired seems to have the features you are after and might be worth a look.

I like the Empress Multidrive. Not sure if this meets your needs but its got a footswitchable OD/(Distortion,OD&fuzz mode). It can layer the modes but also can be set up to A/B OD&Distortion. A really flexible box.

I was also going to suggest the SD Twin Tube Classic. Great pedal, I couldn't be without it.

I quite like the idea of the Empress Multidrive, Fulltone & Seymour Duncan, but the switching simply isn't designed well enough in my opinion, certainly for what I need! I can't concentrate on jumping on the right button when some songs just don't give you the time!

Please keep em coming though!

I'm not sure if your amp is all that stunning if you just run it clean and then add pedals.

Blackstar HT-Dual?

Hell no! I don't want any Made in China or Korea **** on my pedalboard! I'm using nice gear all the way. I don't want to spoil it with Blackstar ****

Yep they are, I have a /13 SJT 10/20 and a /13 FTR 37, though they sing when wound up are far too loud for some of the professional gigs.

*Shrug* - If you're buying based on where it's made rather than what it sounds like, I don't really know what to suggest.

Hmmmmm....sounds a bit snobbish and close-minded to me. JMO, but country of origin does not in itself define "nice".

It's not about being snobbish, I tried one a while back and though that it was not for me, and it p'd me off that Blackstar, a company that markets itself on being British, with the Union Jack flag on everything manufacture everything in Korea and China.

I'm well aware that it doesn't have to be expensive to be good, take the Arion Chorus for example, but I was just wondering if there was anything out there for me.

What does sound snobbish though are comments like Bugera and lipstick...
