Re: Any Scalloped Neck Fans? Please Show Yours!

Which are ripoffs of the genuine Ancient Greek music, presently found in eastern Christian Orthodox Church melodies.

Western music is also a ripoff of Greek music, the blues bastardized it, and rock and roll is a bastardized ripoff of the blues. What's your point? Arabic music also had influence from traditional Jewish music, it's not a direct copy and paste like you're making it sound.

EDIT: Arabic music is also influenced by Ancient Egyptian music (duh) - who were constantly using motifs like the double harmonic minor, Phrygian Dominant, Lydian modes, etc. as early as the Old Kingdom, very possibly earlier. The Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods of Ancient Greece lasted from around 800 B.C. - around 100 B.C. (these years are not exact; in fact, they're being generous). The Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt ended in the the 2,180s B.C. If anything, the Greeks ripped off the Egyptians (but I'm not going to make that audacious claim that I can't prove). Don't BS me or anyone else and tell me Ancient Greeks were the originators of "Middle Eastern" music as we know it.

Western music is based on 8 tones, while Byzantine is based on 12.

Western music (as in the Western World) - equal temperament of E, F, F#, G, G#, A, Bb, B, C, C#, D, and D#

I counted twelve. Your seven modes are Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolin, and Locrian (Greek names of the Eastern Roman Empire aka Byzantine Empire, whose main two languages were Latin and Greek; the Byzantine Empire subscribing to Greek culture moreso than Latin culture through the influence of the Empire's Orthodox Christian church).

I would love to try a scalloped board, but i think I would end up manhandling it too much and going out of tune too easily. It's a nice idea though.

That was what I had thought I'd do also. That's what kept me from seeking a scalloped neck for so lomg. They aren't that common, at least in my area and I was too skeptical to buy a YJM or Blackmore signature online without trying one first.

I use 0.010-0.046 strings and I was surprised how 'stiff' the strings feel, but not in a bad way. I'd have to consciously work the string to get it to go out of tune from pressing too hard. I haven't tried it with 0.009s or 0.008s, which might be very different.

It is very similar to playing a guitar with very tall frets. Now that I've had the chance to play it for a few weeks, I haven't had any difficulty transitioning from a regular neck to the scalloped neck or back.

I think that happens only if you have the mighty Fists of Ham.
