Any SD employees know anything about this..

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

Don't you know solspirit???
Snitches are a dying breed!!! ;)

Thanks for the heads up though, never seen a pickup design like that!

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

I'm confused...why would SD employees know anything about that?

Also, there were a couple threads on this pickup and the technology earlier this year

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

Yeah, none of the samples showed that the design works well with gain. Better for cleans and synth-type effects

Anyone in any business should keep an eye on any competition. Besides that I was wondering if SD had explored this technology.
If I remember correctly there was a company called lightwaves that was trying to introduce a pick up like this about 20 years ago.
My most serious apologies for missing a previous thread.

I've got no loyalty to any pickup manufacturer besides SD.
SD has been my choice for 25 years

Perhaps you wouldn't have if you spent any time outside of the Off Topic room ;)

Not familiar with the Lightwaves tech of old, but I really don't think the current approach is going to be a game changer unless the function of electric guitars changes drastically in music (which it might, of course...who knows!)

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

I'm guessing SD not only knows about these, but have experimented with designs like that. I think optical pickups have been a thing for a few decades now. I don't dig the separate power box that it needs to operate, though.

I'd really like to know what SD has determined and what their thoughts on the subject are. SD is and has always been my only choice and I don't see that changing anytime soon. But I really would like to know what your team's thoughts are. Also I agree about the power... Sounds like a pia

Are you the forum room police?

Hey man... Ask yourself if you really actually contributed to this thread.

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

Let's see...

1) I asked questions
2) I alerted you to the existence of 2 other recent threads on the same subject
3) I shared my thoughts about the application of this particular concept based on the various sound samples available

What have you contributed aside from quoting me 4 different times and complaining?

How 'bout you go back to drinking and smoking and stop trolling yourself

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

It's currently a kickstart campaign. That means that it hasn't been proven technologically feasible, that it's cost-effective to produce, that it's commercially viable or that it actually fixes anything that's broken. For all those reasons I wouldn't feel obligated to come up with an alternative.

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

If SD looked into it, and it worked well enough to be viable and affordable to produce, SD might have put it into production; unless they determined that what it does falls outside their business model and target audience.

Re: Any SD employees know anything about this..

Seems like decent enough guy to me. I don't mind.

You've only been here for what...2 weeks? Give it time, young Padawan. :lmao:

Solspirit is a decent guy, he just hasn't figured out how to exist in a world with other people in it yet and seems to confuse the forum for a soap box most of the time.

Here's the home of the Lightwave optical pickups: https://www.willcoxguitars.com/lightwave-optical-pickup-system/

And here's a cool interview from 2009: https://www.premierguitar.com/artic...de-lightwave-systems-and-the-optical-pickup-1
