Any serious slide guitarists here?

I need a set of heavier strings for my Strat and I was hoping for some recommendations.

I'm just getting into playing slide on the electric guitar. My favorite electric slide players would be Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Duane Allman and Sonny Landreth. I prefer to play slide in open tunings: D or E and G or A.

I'm using a Fender Stratocaster with .010 - .042 strings but that's because those are the strings I use on my electric guitars and they were already on there. I raised the action at the bridge and reset the intonation so it's in tune at the 12th fret with the open tunings I use.

Can anyone recommend some good online forums for players like me who prefer older and more traditional styles of music: blues, r&b, jazz, 50's/60's rock n roll, classic country, folk and mountain music?

I listen to some of the heavy music that you guys like (Satriani, EVH, etc.) but it's not my main interest.

I play a lot of slide. More acoustic then electric, but I do play some electric slide. I use 11's on all my electrics & I prefer higher action so when I do play slide I am pretty much there. I use a Telecaster with a Strat pickup in the neck. Works great.

See if you can find some videos of Arlen Roth, Warren Haynes, Leroy Parnell, etc. They have some great learning videos that I believe were done on Homespun videos. Arlen is great! He is currently doing videos for Gibson. Great player! Kirk L'Orange who is a member here(alththough he desn't post too much) is a phenomenal player. he plays everything in drop D

I really like slide but I don't have an electric to do it with now. I use my Sg every once in a while but it's not often. My acoustic has been set in open G for weeks and I have been playing it a lot. I love slide on acoustic. I am actually going to be getting a new guitar soon (electric) just for slide. hehe. It's gonna be sweet.

i play alot of slide but its almost all in std tuning. i also use 11's and higher action already so i dont think anything of going between slide and fretted notes.

playing slide is all about muting and intonation. this is literally the only forum ive spent any time on so cant help with those suggestions

Bludave is quite a slide player regardless of whether he is playing acoustic or electric.

I play but not as my main thing. Took a while off from it but lately I have been back on it a bit more. I prefer a Tele or an LP with 11's generally on the neck pickup. I love Dunlop 218 glass slides, the Joe Perry Boneyard (if the action is jacked a bit, it's a heavy slide), and an older Big Heart aluminum slide that they no longer make. I'll also use my acoustic but electric is certainly more my thing. I use open G tuning more than any other.

Give me Rod Price and Muddy Waters on the slide anytime. Get a nice thick glass silde, some 11's and a nice simple open tuning and just keep at it. If the sound is in your head it'll get to your hands.

I've been picking up my slide playing a lot lately. As a blues player in the Mississippi Delta, if you don't play some slide, you're just not taken seriously. I play in open E and open G tunings. I have cheap gretsch tk-300 copy that I use for slide and keep the action high. love that guitar.

I use 11's typically for slide and they work out well, especially with the higher tension of open E but don't loosen up too much for slack tuning either.

I use 11's on my Squier in open A and I like them, My Schecter gets 10's in open E.I put a three pos. switch in the squier and wired it,N&M,all three , M&B. Made a world of difference.
