Any tips for fixing stripped screw holes?

since we're talking about "other little tricks" , an older fella taught me this one time, you take a strand of copper wire and stick that into the hole, similar to a toothpick I guess it makes the screw bite but not a permanent solution

Never heard of that one. Copper is soft - sounds like a decent hack.

I use toothpicks and glue (wood or Elmer's, not super glue) for stripped strap button or neck mounting holes.
For something like a pickguard screw, I think a little glue by itself is enough.

Relative to a neck screw repair, would you ever consider using one of these? (With a machine screw, of course.)

I've used inserts for necks before. They work great provided that the inserts were installed completely straight.

That's a much more elegant solution than using wood screws. You would be able to pull the neck off and put it on as many times as you wanted without stripping anything. I like it.
