Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

INTENSELY corrosive sweat
Another forum's thread reminded me how frackin cool Vs are! Let's see em! Mine:

...ultra "loved-on"...89 Gibson V90 Double (custom pg, stacked Duncan P90. Can't stand the Strat-ish volume knob placement on these)
Mockingbird1017.jpg

...and it's less uber-fokked sister, the same thing in black (stripped neck, custom pg, Dunlop 6000s, and a...uh...a Duncan Performer Detonator...)

04 KxK V6 Proto (was a one off 'til last year...he's planning on producing them because of the responses he still gets from the pics, now  )
Forsale067.jpg

...and the one KxK's brother built, the Kaufman EN-V (now sporting a set of double black Dean Flatheads, and I think they might actually stick), along with a couple build and an early pic of my gut minus about 30lbs (the tape was keeping the stupid battery box from falling out )

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

my '84 is awaiting resurrection right now. Is half-stripped and sitting in the closet, don't know if I have any older pics of the hideous paint-job I took off of it that are digital or not. But it did play like a monster when it was all together, will say that much!

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

I tried and LOVE many Jackson Randy Rhoads models, it is just one of those unique feelings to pay a V. It very comfortable when playing standing and it looks feaking cool!

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

Jackson RR5FR: She needs a couple of mods. Namely a PG/Full Shred Combo, and a momentary Kill Switch.

The other one is my plan for the ultimate King V -> Maple Neck, Mahogany Wings, The easy access of the '58 Gibson V by the upper neck, Momentary Kill Switch a la Jeff Waters' V, Fernandes Sustainer a la Kerry King, and a Hardtail w/ Graphtechs and a Full Shred a la Me.

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

Some I used to own:

Custom Shop Jackson KV - Ash body, bolt-on neck, TOM seated in a recessed ebony block. Dunno why they thought this was a good idea, but it wasn't. They had a whole series of these - a Dinky, the V, I think there was a Rhoads and maybe a Kelly.

8084-full.jpg

Import Rhoads body someone painted camo (not me) with a USA neck I got from someone.
Bomb inlays are window decals I designed and printed.
Not sure where it ended up.

JCF-02 #21
Big Red Robbin Crosby Tribute V

Crappy pic of a GroverJackson Roswell Rhoads.

JCF01 #21
"Missing NAMM Rhoads" tribute (was supposed the be a replica of the one Sean Clegg has, but was done before he surfaced with it)

jcf01-full.jpg

KV3 (which I sold, obviously, as they all were)

kv3.jpg

Crappy pic of a Roswell Pro

USA Roswell Rhoads I got cheap cuz it had a broken headstock/neck. Found a replacement neck from the old Ft Worth HQ.

PCS Rhoads, JCF01, and the GroverJackson Roswell

triple-rhoads.jpg

Limited Run Y2KV Pro - bolt on neck - wish I hadn't sold it then (so I could sell it for way more now  )

Y2KV.jpg

Gibson Faded V - don't recall the year - 07/08 I think

Faded-V-full.jpg

Jackson KVX10 with a 3x3 neck from a Dinky

kvxfull.jpg

And I've got a Vantage (Matsumoko) FV575 out in the shed that was originally red, but I sanded it down and Krylon'd it Yellow. Needs work. Bad.

No pic of the KV2 I got recently. Being lazy. It's gloss black though. Seen one, seen 'em all

And no pic of the '84 Gibsons I've had with the pinstripes and Kahlers.

LOL MySpace to the rescue! This is back in '02 when I first got it.

Played it for about 3yrs like that, then stripped it to refinish it. Once torn down, found that it was drilled for at least three different sets of tuners over it's lifetime, the posts from the Floyd were splitting out the entire width of the body, there were two decal kits under that shabby DIY paint with several other crappy paint jobs under THAT, where the original bridge had been, the posts were stuffed full of what looks like drywall spackle, and the strap buttons were held in with plastic wall anchors by huge holes drilled into the wood and oversized screws through the straps. Whoever had this before me beat the holy f*ck out it but good. Basically, I need to have it professionally refinished, plug the old trem route and go back to the stop-bar, and will probably have to have a pickguard to cover it all up, but have kept it because it plays so beautifully. Someday, eh?

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

I used to have one of these, if it counts. It wasn't that bad of a bass, but it really wasn't very good, and the bridge was shifted over to the right, making the high G string fret out very easily and also made a much bigger gap between the low E string and the edge of the fretboard than there should have been. In the end I sold it for $80 to a friend, which wasn't bad since I bought it used for $100.

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

Standard 67 style V that I modded to have a hot rod 70's vibe going on.

Here's a faded cherry that was sanded down to wood and re-shot with a light nitro clear coat and added P90's, no routing necessary, I just ordered a custom pickguard off ebay.

Re: Any V guys here? Post 'em up...

Not sure if that dean counts as a V or an SG buddy!

Looking at the Jackson ones now, I don't see how its possible to reach the 24th fret!

And I've honestly played one for at least 10 years now, but have since moved to Explorers!
