Never heard about it. I trust they get the proper treatment, when I rock'em hard! [emoji39]

Mine get a workout when I crank them at 35dB.

Re: Anybody age their speakers at home a la BadCat.

a sound demo of the treated & untreated speaker would have been much better.

Re: Anybody age their speakers at home a la BadCat.

i used to break in my speakers by hitching them up to my stereo for hours, starting fairly quiet and inching up the volume every so often till it was LOUD. last speaker i bought was an eminence maverick and i didnt do anything but put it in the amp and head to the gig. a broken in speaker sounds different, better, for sure but i have too much going on these days to spend two days breaking in a speaker that sounds fine out of the box

Unless it's a hemp cone I break them in the old fashioned way, play them hard!!!

In the case of a hemp coned speaker I pretty much use the same method as Jeremy, however I'm probably not nearly as patient in the process???

Re: Anybody age their speakers at home a la BadCat.

hemp definitely takes a lot longer to break in than paper

That's exactly what I did, as my g12m-65 arrived to my home.

It certainly does!!!

Actually this video has me pondering if this might not be a better way of breaking them in? I'd like to give it a shot but there's not a whole lot in the way of cheap hemp speakers to practice on & there's no way in hell I'd experiment with any of the ones I currently have!!!

They're pretty much as broke in as they're going to get now anyway.....

I got an Eminence Cannabis Rex about 7 years ago. Loaded it into the cab and just started playing through it. It's sounds fairly good now. Don't know how long it took before I started noticing that it was broken in though.

Cool. I might actually try this!
What is the average estimated time for breaking in a speaker the old fashioned way? I recently bought a new 2x12 with Celestion V30's and noticed the tone softening after 2 days of playing already.

I think that it's like a baseball mitt. The more you work it, the sooner that it happens. I've heard anything from 20 to 200 hours. I suppose that it also depends on the speakers.
